Not looking to repair this dent, but would like some suggestions on patching it aside from using a Sharpie to darken the exposed wood. Thanks.

That finish looks like a Piano Black (high gloss) so just touching it up with some high gloss paint should do the trick.
Apparently, some repairs are done with super glue(!?).
