Looking for a replacement family vehicle

Greetings!

Our beloved '04 Volvo XC70 family vehicle which we purchased new was totaled a few weeks ago on an interstate. Thankfully nobody was seriously injured and my wife was not at fault. I've have decided not to purchase new and have the following requirements:

1. Tow at least 3,500 LBS
2. Good fuel economy
3. All-Wheel drive ( We live in four-season climate)
4. Reliable
5. Prefer wagons
6. Less than $25K

I believe I have the narrowed the search to the following vehicles:

1. BMW 530xi wagon ('06 - '07)
2. Volvo XC90 V8 Sport ('07 - '08)

Please let me know if I should consider any other vehicles or if you have personal experience with the vehicles listed.
