Microsoft’s real answer to the iPad category is expected to be launched next year. But, Microsoft is not ready to give up this year. They have made few cool commercials which features Asus Windows 7 based slate PC. Microsoft is pitching its own view that Windows 7 based tablet still makes sense against all its competitors such as iPad or Xoom. Microsoft has also launched a site windows.com/slate which has more details on Slate based PC’s. It has an interesting comparison on how Asus Slate is PC and Not a PC.

It’s Very PC
You can expect the power and compatibility of a full-powered PC because the Eee Slate features an Intel Core i5 processor, Windows 7, and up to 4 GB of RAM. See what else is Very PC about this PC at windows.com/slate.

It’s Not Very PC
Once you take the Eee Slate off its stand, you can also expect infinite possibilities anywhere. Use the 0.67-inch capacitive multi-touch screen slate’s built-in stylus to compose email, convert handwritten notes to text, or illustrate in a variety of programs. While I think I will get an older ipad soon and the android one for testing some apps on, I am desperately waiting for one with good stylus and something that can work with a one note type app. I hate typing more than a few lines with my finger.

MS tablet for the win! Hope they don't screw it up bad. I am very happy with my X61T and would love one with the size of the ipad or thereabouts.

The biggest downside of the iPad and Android tablets is they're running telephone operating systems with telephone apps.
A real operating system that can run billions of real apps is where it's at.

i knew that but thought there might be some shared code between them - is there not?

One is a telephone OS, the other is a computer OS.
I wouldn't think there's much if any shared code?
If MS pulls this off, the ipad is dead.

Yeah right, no matter how better something is than ianything there's always going to be buyers for Apple products. Apple just makes everything so easy to use for everyone. That's one of the reasons microsoft had to come up with new phone software.

Right, because everyone is buying Mac Pros. Don't buy a Mac.
