Guys, I have a pair of number plates, NSX 01, in my home state of Victoria and I wonder whether special number plates like that have any significance for other NSX owners - apart from me! Friends say they are valuable - but are they really? Can any Aussie members shed any light on this for me?

As the old saying goes "they are only worth what someone is willing to pay". The plus point is they belong on an appreciating asset, the minus is that you have a very, very small customer base to sell them to. Worth holding onto for when NSX 2.0 comes and putting them up for sale then.
A lot of plates are purchased for investment reasons and never become of any value, many asking massively overvalued prices. Timing for a good price is often a small window.
