Rebuilding stock calipers - impossible or just me?

I can't figure this out. The manual says "install dust boot, then install piston". The piston won't go into the caliper with the dust boot in place. Looks like perhaps there is a special tool required? I don't want to rip any more boots... they are not cheap.

I believe you are supposed to use compressed air to push them back in. I have not actually done a caliper rebuild though.
