Site Suggestion: favicon.ico

I'm getting tired of looking for my nsxprime shortcut in my bookmarks bar. I want it to stand out. This site should have a logo in the URL bar like Google, eBay, Wikipedia, etc. Then the bookmark will have a custom, er modified appearance

Could be the "A" logo similar to the one at www.acura.com except Type-R style in red or a stacked NSX since it's too small to read horizontally. These logos are called favicon.ico's in case you're wondering.

I'm not very handy with graphics. However if anyone else would like to submit their designs we can make it a little contest.

I'll pick a design from any submitted before Nov 1, 2008 and the winner will get their choice of several NSX-related prizes (Tamiya models, NSX books, and some other fun stuff).

I'll rummage through my NSX stuff and post some of the potential prizes later.

Favicon Maker for Dummies

This site will covert any image you upload (even animate) and allow you to test how it looks. It can't get any simpler.
Check out the quick sample I made using a photo of a I-beam rod.

For Old Schoolers (who wanna make it from scratch):
The image needs to be 32 x 32 pixels and saved as a .ico extension file. Anyone with Photoshop can get this free plugin here

Thanks for sharing this idea. I always wondered why some sites have those little icons and why others didn't.

Although the majority of us are from the states and I like the red Acura icon, the rest of the world's NSXes are Hondas so we shouldn't use the red A.

It doesn't have to be 32x32. Most icons are 16x16, which is the size the browsers I'm familiar with display icons in.

Avoided the "H" and the "A" and focused on what we have in common.

graphic.jpg - rendering of a red nsx frontal view with the letters NSX

type_r.jpg - extremely legible white on red, done in the fashion of classic Type-R style, and stands out in the bookmarks bar

nsxprime.jpg - figured gotta have at least have one with the name and best possible legibility

bookclassic.jpg - high contrast red on black, reminiscent of the original book brochure

02front.jpg - to compliment the existing 02+ red nsx in the top left corner of the site

triedntrue.jpg - a timeless representation of the car that we all fell in love with...originally presented to us in red...the image that started it all

You think you could pick something and run with it to mod our url? I'm looking forward to having distinct prime bookmark.
It can be easily changed at any time or simply removed if necessary.

I can make whatever you pick an .ico file if you need me to, after that, it just needs to be dropped in the same folder where the index.html file is on your server and voila, custom url.

No prob, I dig. As a test, "NSX Prime" favicon.ico attached here if you want to go simple for starters. Just download and drop in the same folder where index.html is for the site. You can always replace it with nothing (delete it ) or a new favicon.ico file.

Anyone notice, Google just modded themselves for the new year with a new favicon.ico.
It sure stands out in my bookmarks bar...almost too much...kinda reminds me of Toucan Sam!

It worked. I've added a couple more downloads for other options (ex. 1,2 & 4 in post #8).
You can just drag and drop to rewrite over the existing file on the server whenever you want...see if anyone notices :biggrin:

Nope, just drop the favicon.ico in the root directory. The user will probably need to clear cache.

I prefer the simple red NSX text.

It's the one called redboxNSX if Post#14. Just drag and drop to overwrite existing favicon.ico file on the server.
