Did the snap ring broke? If not, just change the upper tranny case and it shouldn't cost you more than $1500 parts and labors. If the ring was broke, you are expecting to pay more cause more labor involved to take the upper tranny case out.
I have one out of my 92 with 55K on it. It is not in the snap ring range. I replaced it with a 6-speed. Where are you located?
