Where can I get Folic Tec Caliper Brake Kit Paint in Gold?

Not sure if this is the correct thread for topic, but I'm looking to paint my brake calipers Gold. I heard that Folic Tec paint is the best. My NSX is red and the brake kit in red does not match. Also the "NSX" letters are already painted in red. Any suggestions. I need it by this Friday as I'm changing my rotors and pads. I tried E-bay only have Blue and Red color.
 
Well ... I don't know anything about Folic Tec paint, but ... I just painted my calipers with the G2 stuff and it came out great. If you have your heart set on Folic Tec I guess you could wait until someone lists it, but if time is a constraint, then IMO the G2 was more than good enough.

I think G2 is just as good. I assume you brushed the paint on? Did you have enough time before the paint harden to do 2 coats? I guess I should have put this on DIY thread.
 
The kit comes with a brush, paint, hardener, and a can of spray-on brake cleaner. After you have the wheels off, you simply spray the calipers with the cleaner and allow it to run off. It dries almost instantly.
I divided the paint in half, the reason being I only had the equipment to jack up one side of the car at a time. Using a drink can cut in half, I mixed in the hardener and set to work.
Note that if you only pour out a quarter of the paint at a time it will still be enough for 3 coats on each of the two calipers you're working on. I'm telling you, there will be a lot of waste if you do what I did and mix up half. Use only a quarter at a time and you'll have enough left for another car.
Anyway, just paint one, move to the other, go back to the first for another coat, back, forth, etc. 3 coats seemed ideal to me.
One important note is that you'll have to clean the brush. It turns out that the best thing is the brake cleaner. Spray it, wipe it on a paper towel.
If you're really enterprising, now's the time to paint the raised NSX script and also detail in those wheel wells.

Thank for all of the good info. So I can basically paint the Calipers while still on the car. Or I may take them off and paint them because I just purchase a new set of sloted front rotors anyway. My plan was to paint them gold and leave the "NSX" letters red. Is there any special red paint to redo the "NSX" red letters? Or do I have to buy the Red color kit too?

Ah. Well. If you're going to take the calipers off the car and have them all right there in front of you that would be ideal. I just did mine right there on the car.
To paint the "NSX" I just bought some high-temp engine paint, sprayed it into a cut-up can, and painted it on with an artist's brush.
You get to mess with the car without actually putting miles on it!:biggrin:

If you have the means for it. We just used the G2 caliper paint in a spray gun from the advice of a friend that has a wheel shop. They did this process there with much success. He said all of the clients were happy with it. I have also had calipers powder coated which IMO is the best solution but the most $$ and most downtime. As with any paint, prep is 90% of the effort. We spent 3 HOURS to prep the calipers with a wire brush, tooth brushes and simple green. The brake cleaners were so toxic (high volume) that it wasn't any more effective than the simple green/tooth brush combo. Wear a respirator/mask...brake dust is toxic. Good luck.

Thanks for the great idea. I just completed one side of the front and rear calipers. I only used maybe 1 oz. of paint and mixed in the hardener. I notice that the hardener would not pour out, I had to scrap it out like candle wax. Is that normal?? I sat and mixed it for a while to get out the clumps.

Question: After 24 hours after painting the calipers, would it be okay to put an additional coat?

Check on the box and see if there is a date of manufacture; this stuff has a limited shelf life. When I got mine they sent a nice, fresh batch. Maybe that's the problem, or perhaps it froze, or ... I don't know. If it's dated and seems too old, you should complain. Then again, perhaps you should complain regardless.

Yeah, I call G2 tomorrow. I actually got it to blend into the paint after numerous stirring around. I was still able to get a pretty smooth paint job out of it. It sure looks nice with the 49er gold and red "NSX" lettering. So far it's drying out pretty good. I will complain. I bought this from ebay "tire rack". For the mean time, I'll just go to AutoZone and purchase a similar Caliper Paint Kit that also uses a harder. Unless someone else has any other ideas.

I never would have recommended the G2 if the results weren't up to a certain standard. Hopefully they'll stand by their product when you contact them. If you use hardener from another box just make sure it is compatible with your paint.

No problems. No I wouldn't blame anyone for this. This vendor was the only vendor I found with the gold. I appreciate the painting tips.

Update: I called G2 they would not ship over night the paint hardener. Only ship USPS 3-5 days. Sucks, but what else can I do but wait.

It is considered a hazardous material; therefore, they can only ship via ground mode.
 
I did the other NSX -my girl's car 6 months ago using 500F Engine Paint from pebboys. paint is paint just make sure you get the right stuff its available anywhere. I ve used more expensive stuff in the past and see no benefit year after year.

I attached a Drill wire brush to take all the rust off down to bear metal.
than used a air can and a polishing drill disk to get all metal dust off.
Than applied 2 coats of high temp 500f metal spray paint
than sanded nsx letters and ribs (looks great) used drill sanding disks
than applied 2 coats of clear coat same high temp brand is important for compatibility

did it right on the car put plastic bag around the brake components. And the paint on the brake pad obviously will come off with next brake replacement.

been months and not one single chip.
