I believe Coors advertises their product the same as other alcoholic beverage companies do and adolescents will see these ads regardless. Parents need to teach their children the dangers of drinking and driving. The article mentioned that his girlfriend gave him the keys to her mother's car knowing that he didn't even have a license. The death of this young man is regrettable, but giving him keys to a car while he's drunk is quite frankly stupid. They are old enough to exercise common sense.

Well, I know someone who received two DUI's, two consecutive months in a row. The first one is lamentable, but you would think that after totalling a car, having a license revoked and breaking a leg, this person would learn. But I guess they had to have it hammered in one more time. 
I read about this stuff all the time sad thing is that Coors will probably pay out just to keep things "tight lipped" and avoid any more media exposure..

It's nothing but a cash grab. If the "awards" from these frivolous cases were court-mandated donations to charity, the suits would quickly dry up.

It worked for me, I was married at 22. I have been married now for 14 years and they have been the best years of my life.
This is one of the big problems with people, they always want to blame someone else instead of taking responsibility for their own actions. What next, sue a hospital because your relative died of natural causes???? Get a job and make your money like honest people.

sounds like a good plan. Don't get me wrong, I'm not passing judgement. Just being silly cuz i'm 24 and can't imagine myself getting married any time soon. Things to do, places to see! I do have some friends that i could completely see getting married now tho, scares me. Then again... that your SC in the pics?.. looks nice... wanna get married?.. oh right, my bad, u're taken =)
Getting back on topic, it reallly annoys me that people bring up law suits like that. I feel bad for their family, that's a horrible loss, but imo u're gonna have a rough time in hell if u try to capitalize on your son's death like that (not to sound too harsh hehe). Like someone said, if the proceeds are given to a group like Mothers' Against Drunk Driving then by all means they should go for it.

It sounds to me like this lawsuit is just the mother lashing out suing anyone she feels is responsible for her sons death. I think the main reason she is lashing out in such a manner is deep down she probably feels somewhat responsible.

Well not all the law suits are a waste.
About 4 years ago my friends 18 yr old daughter got together with some friends and they went to a local liquor store which sold them some booze. They were driving later and had an accident. She was thrown from the vehicle and died.
They sued the liquor store and won. The liquor store was forced to close and paid the settlement. All the money was donated to charity as well.
The store was at fault because they did not card the kids.

When I was a teenager, I knew full well the consequences of drinking and driving. Even though I knew plenty of people who could have gotten me beer, I never drank and drove, ever.
So both the store and the kids share blame. I hope no innocent parties got injured or killed besides those who were drinking, as that would make it even more tragic.

That's why law suits are based on determining who is the majority at fault. The court determined the liquor store was.
If kids want to try to get booze they will. There were several errors of judgement involved, however, there would have been no booze sold if all liquor stores followed proper procedure when carding people.
I work in the computer field and the last place I worked at had a card printer. There was a 17 yr old kid there printing FL drivers licenses for all his buddys. They whipped them up in a simple program, printed them and laminated them. They did about 100 for people over a 6 month time frame. At a glance they look like the real thing. But if you take a close look they don't pass because the printer can't do the hologram and the fine detail in the state graphic. A simple swipe would also indicate a forgery. As of this date I have not heard of anyone's being confiscated.
With technology so easy to access and so easy to use the liquor stores and bars have even more responsibility to weed out the fakes. It's as easy for them to determine a fake license as it is to make one.

But as with anything else forged or faked, it is only easy to determine poorly done fake IDs. The rest slip by most people and are only spotted by experts or determined to be fake by authorities who can call in and check the information on the ID.
