sad day for my wallet--- firebird main chandler az

That's gonna hurt for sure

I've been there....you hate to leave the track on a flatbed....that said i hope you did'nt have to endure the 3 hour drive in between the truck drivers like i did:rolleyes:

ohh man. nothing worse than that.

I know exactly how you feel;

at least I made a really expensive scuplture to commemorate the occasion.

x3 on being there. Not a good feeling. We need a to form a support group of engine busters to commiserate together.

Bad news: you can't get back yesterday.

Good news: tomorrow will be a better day.

Damn. I'm not sure what im sad about the fluid leak or the stock rear valence:smile:!! Im sure you step it up to bigger and better things, good luck. The comment about a speedy little car made it ok to be on the flatbed!!

That sucks Jerry...
Any news ?

Jeff looking at it today... early report was transmission intact physically... driveshaft popped out (same side i JUST had fixed like 1000 miles ago..) which is why all the fluid was lost.. I'm hoping just a clip popped loose or something.. and no extraneous damage like LAST time.. shaft took out a bunch of suspension, cost me a fortune, and sucked down 6 weeks...

still... a very sad photo lol..

Sounds like an axle retaining set ring.
Hopefully thats all it is.
Wonder if the retaining grove that holds the retaining set ring in place is too worn to hold the axle in place.
Good luck to you, hope its something simple.

Shad at DA rebuilt by driveshafts a few weeks ago. He used a different boot and much thicker grease (OEM grease is too thin and gets very watery over time). My axles had about 9600 miles on them and the grease was almost completely deteriorated. You may want to call him and find out exactly what he uses. He said the axles seem to be more reliable with his recipe.

HAPPY DAY FOR MY WALLET!!!! Is officially a driveshaft issue, transmission intact!! SOS warranteeing labor due to recent work. If it goes again... IDK will have to look into upgraded shafts...

So the drivers side shaft popped out of the transmission due to the clip? Thats awesome news though! I bet your mind was racing with all the things youd have to do if it turned out to be terminal

Do you have pics? I'm just curious as I personally replaced the trans output shaft seal to the drivers axle on my car, and it's a lot of disassembly and a wrestling match to get it out. Did the CV joint explode first and allow the cup and splined shaft to separate and fly out?

Great news, easy fix.
I'm curious about upgraded drive shafts, you mean axles ? Never heard of an upgraded shaft.
However there is a modification that some of us do that spend a lot of time on the track.
We vent our axles which eliminates the heat build up in the boot, allows the axle bearings to breath, stay cooler and most times stops the bearings from freezing up and or locking up causing the axle to pop out of the gearbox, as FXMD taught me to do long ago.
Since I started venting my axles, I have not lost one in 3 years of tracking my car 20+ days a year, over 180 sessions in 3 years on the same axles at 550 RWHP +.
However, I do pull them once a year, re-grease and replace the vents.

Here's a picture of one I completely rebuilt for someone.

See the little white tubes on the axle shaft, under the boots and bands ?
Those are the vent tubes, they allow the heat and pressure caused from the 3 bearings moving in/out and around to escape rather than build up, burn the grease, and cause the bearing to freeze or lock up Which can cause a host of problems including the axle spine pulling out of the gear box.
Here's a close up of the venting. Those are bearings in the background.
