The Official 2017 F1 thread

Takeaways
1. That was entertaining
2. Honda is finally on the board lol
3. Poor stroll I was cheering for him (see what I did there #3 )
4. Big congrats to Daniel and bad luck for Max

Agreed...Azerbaijan was very entertaining. Great drive for Botas after an unfortunate incident with Raikkonen on the first lap. Vettel should feel lucky all he got was a 10 second penalty for unsafe driving. What did was nothing short of bush league. I think he'll be lucky to keep his 4th place points after that crap.

Ricciardo is one lucky boy, after being off his teammate's pace all weekend. Verstappen must be wondering where he ran over that black cat?

The circuit isn't a joke, it's a challenge yes, but the driving of some of those drivers, well that was the joke part.

How did Bottas avoid a penalty for his clunky driving on the first lap?? Talk about a "get out of jail for free" card, for that and then the safety car allowing him to get his lap back.

Anyway, it certainly made for an interesting race. :)

Looks like Vettel was watching too much Trump - denying reality is new thing from him.

Nope, Vettel has always had a different perspective of reality, just look into some of his clashes with Webber back when. But I thought he had improved in recent years, but I suppose the pressure of being in the championship hunt does colour one's perspective?

Nothing like this time - he's playing a fool. Because he isn't one. Hamilton was very reserved about saying anything - I think he's waiting on published telemetry. Regardless though, Vettel I think matches Ferrari spirit very well - noisy screaming in your face but with lesser result relative to the overall investment. It was fun to watch though.

I like your comparison....Vettel should have been Black flag period.....this goes against the FIA Safe driving campaigne.

What a race–Finally just watched it. That was the most exciting race I've seen in a long time. It was nice to see some other guys up front at the end. Vettel was definitely out of line. It's one thing to pull up next to Lewis and "wave," but to swerve into him, that's insane. He could have damaged both of their cars. I like Vettel more nowadays, but he let's his temper get the best of him. We all know about his amazing radio tantrums.

I feel bad for Perez and Ocon. Luckily one of them came back, but do you think Force India is going to be a little more strict with those two after the last two race incidents? Same with Massa, bad luck. I was hoping to see him up there fighting for the win. Good for Stroll and Danny. Exciting to watch besides all of the delays.

The lack of adequate cranes or lifts to move stranded cars off the circuit; the lack of course personnel (with brooms, etc) to clear debris off the track. Compare to Monaco or Montreal, it has a lot to improve towards.

For a street course; the circuit is ok, too narrow in most places, but it did yield passing and required a balance of speed and downforce.

As for Hamilton and Vettel, Hammo will dry hump you, then talk smoothly about it in the post race interview and blame you for chaffing. Just ask Rosberg? Vettel is no angel, but doesn't claim to be. Probably shouldn't have hip checked Hamilton, be he also didn't dump him, either.

I totally agree about the lack of cranes and marshals, but there is something pretty awesome about seeing these guys three wide throughout a race down the front stretch. Granted they were mostly on re-starts, but still.

If you look closely you can see he didn't mean to do that. He was just sloppy.

Wonder if that bump caused Hamilton's restraint system issue. That would be funny.

I've watched it several times and the more I do, the more I'm convinced that was a very purposeful move. Vettel doesn't do sloppy. Funny thing is, I was starting to like Vettel again since he joined Ferrari and has helped them turn things around for the team. Then he pulls this stunt after Lewis "brake checked" him. What a whiner. A whiner with a very selective memory.

There is a fundamental difference between shinanigans during a rolling start and an intentional car bump before the green flag .the latter is totally unacceptable. It happend once a long time ago in one of my pro races and the race was red flagged with the "bumper" eliminated from competition for the day. BTW data showed Lewis never touched the brakes but waited too long to accelerate out of the turn, a very common albeit not very nice manoeuvre . In the good old days when F1 drivers used to know each other and often socialise during the weekend, they would never think of doing what Vettel did. The guy has a lot of talent but clearly not much control over his emotions.

exactly ....tender vetells would not discuss his hip check, but kept arguing for Lewis's brake check which was in reality a lift....These guys know exactly what their hands are doing....red mist maybe...but bad form that should have DQ'ed him imho...

I think he's showing us full brake application and zero throttle. Goes against what everybody said including the stewards. Besides, at 52mph in first gearr a full brake application would stop the car dead in its track.no?
Like the man said: Photoshop ?

whether that is real or fake news just like the insurance industry it is the responsibility of the person behind to prevent collisions....Hamo seemed to handle his teams over site pretty well..

The FIA concluded that Lewis did not brake, they when by the info from the car's telemetry.....not some Photoshop image.
As I said before, Vettle show have been black flagged.
The FIA is now investigating further and their finding will be made public next week.

FIA has adjudicated.

Vettel apologies [again], all sorted, lets go racing! :)

I read both McLaren drivers will have the full updated PUs for Austria, and with no further penalties to boot. Autosport are calling it Spec 3.0. when everyone who has been following it knows it's actually the Spec 2.5 :D Let us hope and pray that -

a) it's totally reliable,
b) the power gains make a difference on the track!

Have I jinxed it already?? :(

A birthday present for Vettel. The very talented little brat turns 3 today. Actually IMO and having seen this happen a few times since the 60's, Ferrari's might (and threats) have won FIA's sympathies again.

I'll bet a dollar that you have already jinxed it. :))
