It was not a good day for the NSX - it did not complete a single lap, only toured around the Grand Prix track a couple of times before retiring with gearbox trouble (?). Some images are here.

It is more of an NSX than the current JGTC cars. :) A road car frame, the right engine in the right position, yes I think it still deserves to be called an NSX. Just as a Porsche 935 is still a 930, and a Prodrive F550 is still an F550 even though underneath the bodywork things have changed...

How many NSXers will be at the Ring on 12/13 June to cheer the car on? (and the other NSXs, some of which will be in desperate need of cheering)

I certainly can't wait. What do you think, does it realistically stand a chance against the BMWs and Opels and Audis?

Luckily, this wasn't THE event yet, only AN event. There will be other opportunities to test the car on the 'Ring (well there weill have to be).

So how did it run? - It didn't. Some screw-up with the paperwork, apparently. Rules are rules. Disappointing. But it did run in the untimed test on Friday:

See also www.vln.de (official championship page) for results and images; the race happens on Saturday so they should have some pictures online by Sunday morning. This is great news; I can't wait to see how the car will do.

So you are not impressed with the NSX's handling then?:D Now there's a career that's gone strangly wrong. Oestreich is very fast around the Nordschleife in particular, and was really quite good in touring cars in the '80s and into the '90s (winner Spa 24hrs 1990), and then it all kind of fell...

...and try to get out in a hurry! :)

    Jgtc Nsx

 Oestreich - I never would have thought of him. But the choice makes sense when you think about it. Out of curiosity, may I ask where you have this from? Someone within the team?

AFAIK the Japanese driver hasn't been nominated yet.

But surely all parties involved (GS, Honda Germany, Sportauto, everyone) will have thought about these things before?? They should have...

The journos that drove the car last year aren't such bad drivers, though. I think they made the most out of it. The NSX-R won't ever be a race-winning car without a major development program that may well lead to the same result as what they have no: a silhouette racer. :) It is a shame...

    Nürburgring 24hrs: works NSX

It's a nice little package. Will it last, though - it was built for 500k races. Looking forward to a 24hr test that will tell us more. The car will not run on the Ring before the race weekend itself so they are to an extent playing it by ear.

True, but the "all-out" GT500 engine had something in the region of 500bhp if I remember this correctly. Incidentally, both Hahne and Lechner are former winners of this race.

Another driver: Robin Liddell of Scotland (turned down a Porsche drive at Le Mans for this, smart move imho). 4th man will be a Japanese driver - could well be T. Matsuda. Apologies for mis-posting the image link. :)

Thought you might be interested in a few images of this car: http://www.membres.lycos.fr/kbotorfs/freepractice15april2004.htm Taken at a test session on Zolder, Belgium. ex-JGTC chassis (2002 ch'ship runner-up), engine by Toda Racing, works support.
