For sale - my pampered 1991 NSX. Spends most of its time in the garage. All work done by the book at local Acura dealer. It's in great shape - most people think it's a new car. Very limited mods, never raced or tracked (myself or previous owner). I need the garage space and it needs someone to...
All I can say is that Larry is awesome! His diagnosis was exactly right. There is a very greatful Acura Master tech in Santa Rosa. They took the belt off and started from scratch aligning everything and now it's back to it's old self. The TCS light was a symptom of the rough engine. I do have...
Thanks for the info - I just relayed it to them. I hope it helps as they are stumped, took everything apart today to check the cam timing.
Another symptom is that the TCS light flashes when accelerating. They have been chasing that down also as a potential cause of the loss of power. Can't...
Today I had my timing belt changed at the dealer and when I drove it home, it had much less power. It felt like the brakes were on or the car was much heavier. It also did not have very smooth power. At higher rpms the power came back but no VTEC kick. The dealer is great and I'm taking it back...
It gets much worse if you factor in the cost of capital. If Honda spent $1B in 1990 to design the car and produce the tools, it's cost of capital has to be at least 10%. This means they need to allocate $100M to cover the cost of capital. Over 15 years its $1.5B. Divide this by 19,000 cars and...
I asked my brother in law about this a couple of years ago. He designs these intakes for a living. They are there for two reasons: 1. lower the noise from the engine and 2. prevent water from getting into the engine.
All new cars need to be tested to have noise lower than some federal spec or...
I think that I found a cure for this. Another issue that I had was very slight oil drips that I eventually chased down to my oil pan. The drain plug was not making a good seal. The threads were messed up as the best that tightening could do was to slow the leak. This kept the bottom of the oil...
NSXs spin because most of the weight is in the center of the car. With the passengers and engine right in the center + lightweight Al frame - Honda engineers designed it this way. It's why the car turns so fast and easy. The downside is that when it loses grip, it will spin much faster than a...
The engineer in me noticed that it crashed well. The hood and front end crumpled in all the right places. The front windshield in still intact and the door still looks well alligned. Good to know if you see a 40mph poll coming your way!
I just had mine done. I have a '91 Red with a black top. I paid $1200 to do mine but I had the side pillars and door handles also done + the front window molding replaced (they shrink over time). I had two estimates for about the same amount. $600 sounds low.
My car had the clear-coat...
I just had a tire replaced and when I went to check the air pressure at home, my pressure gauge could not get a reading. It looks like the center part of the valve stem is much further down from the top than usual. It's too deep for any of my airpressure gauges or air pumps. I'm going to check...
Odds are that the guy you were talking to was not the owner of the shop - owners usually like to sell products and make customers happy. I'm sure the owner would love to hear from you and fix his problem. You will probably get a great deal and see someone lose their job. Send a real letter to...
At the current gas prices and markup for premium - it may be cheaper to use premium gas. Here is the logic: For gas that is $2.70 for regular and $3.00 premium. You are only paying 10% more for premium. If your car gets 10% (or more) better mileage - it's cheaper.
When Gas was say $1.00 for...
I'd recomend an Acura dealer. I used a SMOG only station - they had trouble with the TCS, and the timing light gave very strange readings. I later learned that the NSX does not work well with some of the timing lights out there.
I've had a couple of people point to the cam sensor but I can't see where that is or any dirt/goop around where I think it is. It drips about once every other week so I'm not too worried about it short term. I'll have the dealer look at it next time I'm in.
I don't know why a potting compound...
