Acura: Going after Bentley

What a joke. The Acura marque can't even rival Honda's, let alone BMW. And that is in house product design. For the love of God, what the heck do they think they are doing???

That's great news for the NSX then. If the new replacement is a GT car, then the NSX sports car will become more desirable thusly the higher the resale price will be for clean ones.

why not; they went after ferrari once upon a time...

I don't think its that big of a leap. Some of Acura's newest designs are already almost as ugly as Maybach's. The sagging rear end on the new RDX is as classic a design as the sagging ass on the Maybach 62.

The sagging rear end...

Funny. I haven't heard "sagging rear end" since there was talk about this car:

when i heard Aston Martin was for sale - i was hoping Honda would buy it merge with Acura.

Better yet get rid of Acura altogether.

the fat pony-tailed guy at Acura design (ASC) is not a good image - guy reminds me of the comic book dealer in the simpsons.

yeah dude keen edge.....

Wow, could they have possibly missed the mark by a wider margin? If true, the brand is headed in a very disheartening direction.

"How ridiculous" was what I thought when reading this news. Sure that's a great idea to want to rival the absolute luxury marques of the auto industry, but the way things have been going for Acura, it's NOT going to happen.

This somewhat misguided statement was made by the Acura Division of Honda which we all know are nothing but marketing and sales specialists for luxury Honda Products here in the States, Australia and parts of Asia. I haven't seen any noteworthy contributions they've made to any of the actual products themselves. Their most significant creation was the ASCC which is clearly a disaster. Acura only sells three sedans and two SUV's as well. How pathetic is that? I do agree with the fact that they feel Honda must adopt V8 rear wheel drive platforms to be taken seriously, but other than that I think Honda and Acura clearly LACK a singular and cohesive vision for their products.

It seems as though there is a gigantic nitrous tank leaking somewhere inside Honda. Hopefully somebody over there will extract their head from their buttocks long enough to open a window and let some fresh air in the place.

"wow Honda going after Ferrari? LOL what a joke."

I guess that's what the world said til Honda unveiled the NSX.

who knows, those people are pretty careful about what they say so they might surprise us...

Your statement is true but the difference between then and now is that Soichiro Honda is dead. Fukui is a bean counter with an engineering background.

Because Honda has always had some leading edge in motorsports and engine/chassis technology, it was within their scope to chase Ferrari with the NSX. Honda has consistently failed when it comes to luxury vehicle. It is just not in their culture. Even one of the Acura VPs indicated this upon the exit of the previous generation 3.5 RL. He indicated that luxury was not their thing and reference the previous RL to a couch mobile. Hence Acura now has the more performance oriented RL of today compared to the previous generation.

Don't hold your breath. The whole chasing after Bentley things is not only a pipe dream but reflects a disarray with Acura's Public relations team. First you got a pony tail guy talking about their off the wall designs and now this.

My point is that how many Bentleys and Maybachs are sold every year and to what type of audience? Why would Honda wish to depart so far from what has made them successful in the past? Arguably, their most significant departure from their core market (the NSX) was a financial failure if you don't include the "halo" and marketing effects. Why try to repeat that on even a much more extreme level, with a much more niche and limited market?

that's true, Soichiro Honda is one of the legend in automotive racing history...just like Bruce McLaren, Ferrari Enzo, etc...

I have a feeling that front engine layout luxury coupe or going after Bentley/Maybach kind of idea wouldn't have existed if Soichiro Honda was still alive.

Fukui is different and he sucks...if Soichiro Honda was till alive, I don't think he would let F430 or Gallardo fooling around with the NSX. Also I have a feeling he would update the S2000 better than the Boxster S by now.
