*ALERT* Stolen Car!!!

I got into an arguement with an NSX owner when his talking alarm warned me and then went off as I was looking at his car up close. He came out of the store and we had at it.
Was he right about his alarm system and did I touch his car?

THe club may be cheesy, but its at least an extra 60 seconds that can help maybe a witness or something seen, maybe even valuable video where 60 seconds is a lifetime. I'll take it.

Hey Darkcyd. I'm a dirving instructor. I drive around all over Los Angeles ALL DAY. I'll look for your car too.

I'm not sure why someone would steal an NSX except to joy ride in it or sell it. Parting it out would probably be hard to do, since there is little demand for the parts. But then again, some people are just a-holes and want to cause others grief and misery. I've memorized the License plate and exterior characteristics. (which will be the best way for me to identify it "at work."

Any word yet? 4 days seems kinda long to me. My M3 was stolen/stripped and recovered the next day. The officer said they found in the woods away from any streets. It was half way in water? I guess they were trying to push it all the way in so it wouldn't be found. How they found it, I have no clue?
Best of luck, hope all works out...
Regards
Z

I hope that everything turns out well.

Personally, I think the club has limited effectiveness for the pros. My car had the club on and the doors were locked. They still managed to took it from my garage while we were gone.

When I saw the car after they recoveried it, there were no damages on the locks and the steering wheel. That tells me that they had no problem removing the club after unlocking the car.

I have confirmed that the clutch/brake lock called "Autolock" will not fit in an NSX. So don't waste your time if you are thinking about going that route.

I was with Farmers and I got my check roughly 1.5 month after I filed the report with the company. Their compensation was very fair. So don't worry! You'll be covered.

There are other systems besides lo-jack. The one I use uses cellular and GPS. I can track it by phone or web. I can also build a fence around my car, if it travels outside this area it will alert me by anyway I choose. It can also be set up to alert you if the car travels above a set speed limit. It will work anywhere there is cellular service.

Alarms work but only to keep the average theif out. I wouldn't invest a huge amount of money in one. I would request at least three different types of immobilization. I would also request the "brain" not be installed under the dash.

There is no better protection than having good insurance and good records of your car.

Nope, no word yet on the car. Haven't heard from the police. It kinda sounds like they're so overloaded with these types of cases that it's just another drop in the bucket. So I guess it's a wait and see from this point on out. I doubt the car is being parted out too, seeing as how the market is so small. Unless of course the parts are being shipped off to SE Asia. =) I think the higher probability is that it is being shipped to another country or being kept as a project car for someone really into cars. In that case, it'll probably resurface somewhere with a modified VIN.

I've spoken with the adjusters from Farmers and they said that they usually wait 20-30 days max to determine whether the vehicle will be declared as non-recoverable and total loss. Then they'll pay out. As far as the value, that is the big unknown right now. I've obtained the receipts from the brand new tires I had just purchased, from the new clutch I put in, the NOS system installed, the rims I had on the car, and the alarm and stereo sytem installs. So now I'm compiling a list of similar year and mileage NSX's on the market so that I will be able to work with the adjuster to get the fairest settlement. Thanks to ANYTIME for the suggestion.

Be careful, when you get your estimate from the insurance company it is usually from a company called CCS. They compile prices from similiar cars that sold in your area. If it is less than you expected I would fight it. They do not even check to see if these cars have salvaged titles. So if you get low balled call the numbers on the sheet they give you and get as much info on these cars as possible.

I use a tracking device call securatrak pro.
They are no longer accepting consumer accounts. I know they sold most of their accounts to some other company. So if your interested you may contact them and see who took over. www.securatrak.com

I believe they are going by this name now. http://www.sapias.com/solutions/private.html

They should take all of that into account and increase your settlement amount by some percentage of the additional costs.

Yup, that's the way to do it. Also, if you need an "expert opinion" as a reference, let me know if I can help.

I've heard a lot more cases of totalled NSXs where the owner was satisfied (and often very pleased) with the settlement, than I have ones where the owner was dissatisfied and/or had to fight extensively with the insurance company for a fair settlement.

Very sorry to see your car was stolen. Being the victom of a crime really sucks and I hope your holding up OK - as I think you are.

Question for you. The mods you did on your car - are they recoverable? Did you have an extra rider? I am thinking about all the extras I have on my car and am wondering if this ever happened to me - if I would be compensated fairly.

Sorry again / thanks for your reply...

Most folks should not need an extra rider on your policy. (Those whose mods rival the value of the car may want to look into those special, stated-value insurance policies.)

As noted in the Insurance section of the FAQ, "In determining the amount of reimbursement when a car is totaled, they will take into account the value of any modifications made to the car, as long as they are street-legal and can be substantiated with receipts. Save those receipts!"

They might depreciate the value of the mods based on how long you have been using them, and they might not give you anything towards the installation labor, but at least you should get a nice portion of their original purchase price back in the settlement.

Feel free to discuss further with your insurance agent/company.

As nsxtasy noted, most of the street-legal modifications/upgrades are covered, but not on a dollar for dollar value. My understanding is that they are covered for what the increase to the Blue Book value would be. There are also what are called 'endorsements' which are essentially specific coverage for additions to your car that are not considered standard equipment for that vehicle. You should definitely consult with your insurance agent to determine exactly how your insurance coverage works.

And NSXTASY, thanks for the offer, I will definitely keep you in mind for that expert opinion if it is needed. =)

I just found this in the Recycler
http://www.recycler.com/asp/AdDetails.asp?iID=63555&sBAC=909&bSQ=0

Volk GT-N's for sale. Somebody want to call and check them out for me?

I don't have the specifics on my rims to compare, but I do know that I had 17's in the front with Toyo Proxes T1S 215/40/17.

Clues to look for:
1. Do they have a set of 4 or just 2?
2. What is the tire size? Very few have as slim of a tire as the NSX uses.

Couple pictures of my car just recently...

Based on the ad, it's a 4 bolt pattern. The NSX is 5 bolt. Sorry.

I had a dream.. bad one.
Got pulled over by cop in front of police station, when I was out the car's gone.. I got furious and turn the nearby places upside down..

Thank God that its only a dream..
But it helped me understand how you feel..
May God bless you and your car..

Well, the newest edition of NSX Driver just came out with the article I submitted. At least I have a little documentation of one of my last memorable experiences with Ishtar (the name I gave my NSX, from Macross II). Too bad I didn't submit any photos with the article that had my car in it.

This waiting period is really agonizingly slow. I can't wait till I'm in an NSX again. <sigh>

I'm a Maccross fan too
but Macross plus.. I almost got the plate "YF19" for my car.. haha
