...The stand-alone AEM may also require the engine be not running when loading data.....anyone?

The AEM can be fully tuned/adjusted on-the-fly (while running) including typical Windows functionality such as copy/paste and multi-step un-do. It works out pretty well with a co-pilot.

Does MB's unplug and run normal allow cars in CA. to pass smog
without the BBSC interfering? Just curious.
