HD camcorder???

What's the latest and greatest HD cam out today. I know there was a post awhile back, but looking for something more up to date.
This is for family use, nothing fancy. Still want the best money can buy. Price range is under $1k.

find a used sony hdr 500. can be had for about $500. great picture and low light video cam.
