I just got a V1 and am trying to find the best way to mount it. Since the engine is loud and so is my radio it has to be in my line of sight for me to see when it goes off, but then there's problems with the wires and it blocking my view. Anyone got any ideas?

I got a t-top and was thinnking of using the visor, but I dont think its gonna work.
How bout mounting it to the right of the mirror then using the concealed display and mounting it on the visor, instrament cluster, or even behind the stearing wheel?

Any clue?? I saw one that was mounted in the mirror, but dont wanna spend $1000 on that!

I have my escort 8500 x50 clipped to the passenger-side visor, hard-wired into the dome light - I had a problem with the suction cups damaging the glass on my last car (993tt), and the suction cups weaked over time to the extent that on cold nights the detector would fall from the glass and pull out the 'hardwire' wire - because of this I purchased a visor clip, and haven't looked back... the one downside I have noticed is when clipped onto the passenger visor it 'pulls' the visor down approx 5mm; outside of this it has worked great, keeps the detector where I want it, and visibility is great with the display on 'high' brightness mode.

Had mine hardwired to the interior lights but a local shop. $35 I believe!

Dali mount near the back window with the concealed display unit behind the clock display. The control module is in the ashtray. Previous owner wired it and it works well.

it has to be in my line of sight. I cant see it when its behind me or on the passenger side. And I cant hear it when Im in higher rpm range or with the radio like 75% or more turned up :(

I have mine suction cup'ed to the top portion of the glass to the left of the rear view mirror and had it hardwired by a audio shop to the interior fuse box.

Also, if you are still using the stock audio bose setup you will have no problems hearing the v1 audio. If you have an aftermarket system, then that may be a different story.

I mount mine next to the rear view mirror toward passenger side. Mine is also hardwired to the fuse box under the dash (right next to the left foot rest area). I hide my wires inside the A pilliar and inside the roof liner.
You can have yours hardwired at local audio shop.

Dan,

Looks like the volume button it mounted on the underside of the mirror from the pictures on KO-NSX’s link. Just a guess.

I thought about this setup. Ultimately, with the lights on the right side of the mirror, I just didn’t see much difference with putting it right next to the mirror. Now if I could tuck my V1 in the engine bay to secure it with the targa off in parking situations, then I might consider it.

If you are at all interested in seeing what this looks like in person, feel free to PM me. I’d be happy to show you my setup. I wired mine straight into the fuse box running the wire down the pillar. The power source can be seen from this pic posted by D'Ecosse.

I called Apexcone today and they told me that the mirror products are no longer available, cost too much to manufacture.

DAMMIT!!!!
ehh, I would want it on the left side anyways
I really cant hear it with the radio on in my truck and wont be able to in the NSX so I have to see it go off....my hearing isnt the best :(

guess its going on the left of the mirror or visor

you got PM whealy

I was looking at this on my 5 hour drive home from San Jose in my 02. I was thinking of recovering my pass side visor with leather and have the v1 cleanly mounted in it, then mount the remote in a small leather cover in the center of the dash up near the glass. I also have a plan for homelink built into the drivers sunvisor out of a honda accord. I did the same thing in my sti and a few of the s2000 crew has done it as well.

Mine is VERY similar to this one, but with the following differences: Adjust the mirror so it is physically lower, imagine the 3 peice coupe visors, move the v1 up and left so it is above the right side of the mirror.

If you do that, it sits just to the right of the mirror button and the sensor is just below the tint line. You can't see it at all from the outside of the car (too high up). The suction cups are right at the VERY top of the glass and it fits perfectly. The only functionality I lost was the ability to tilt down the center visor. It is hard wired it into the power from the overhead dome light.

I used my buddy's V-1 with the stealth display on my drive to NSXPO. If you use the Valentine stealth display and control for the unit, you can mount the unit anywhere you want and then mount the display in your line of sight. I just rested it above the steering wheel between the speedometer and tachometer! I love the V-1 but man...they really need to upgrade it to allow users to shut off X and K band...that chirping can be annoying!!!

try these...

If we can coordinate a group buy on mutually desired V1 stealth display rear_view mirror,
I'm in for one! Want me to look into it?!?

If you guys do arrange a group buy, I strongly suggest that you have the mirrors made with the V1 display on the left, not on the right like mine. I have to turn my head to see the display at the right side of the mirror. If the display is on the left, you'll be able to glance over and check the display w/o moving your head.

The only thing that I don't like about the built in mirror alert is that it can be seen through the rear glass of the car. The concept of the concealled display is to mount it lower in the car so that people behind you, including Mr. policeman, won't see that you have a detector. I used to have my display mounted on top of the steering column, but I became a little creative and custom fitted it into the clock.

Here is my set up with the V1.
