Niagara Cruise Signup -- July 7th, 2007

I agree with Arshad Rick!

Your 17/21 wheels look crazy! I never thought that you could put such a large wheel back there, but you made it happen!

Keep pushing the envelope!

No question about those rims Rick. When I saw them at the cottage, I had to look 3 or 4 times. It almost makes your car look like it's been built for drag racing jets! Very sharp.

You're running WHAT back there?! I thought it was just the angle that made the back wheel look so big... what the hell sizes are you running?

... what the hell sizes are you running?

There off a Boeing 737..... Anyone else need some ????

Thanks for the compliments guys !! Too bad Christina looks terrified  ( That must have been when my steering wheel fell off........... ) Just joking. Garrick did a SUPER job of throwing my 30cm Momo on for me. I tell you guys...he's not cheap but he IS spectacular.

BTW for you guys that can't afford the Boeing slicks... I can get you Airbus tires for 30% less....................

Anyone want a Jet engine to throw in back there ???? How about a JT8D-17 ??

I want the white F355 from that drive...it would match the NSX so nicely.

What white F355? There was a silver one, but no white one as far as I'm aware. Do you have a pic?

Yeah Omar was bitching up and down about the F355 hehehe. No power and crappy handling ... anything else you want to add to that list? :)

Mitch: Charles was mentioning that you were going to try and make it out to this one -- it's too bad you couldn't come out!

o rly?

This is news to me. So the coveted F-car was not all its cracked up to be? Is this a common thing for the 355? I remember all the reviews of that thing when it was in production saying it was the best car to date etc etc etc. Even Montezemolo had a F355 F1 spider as his personal car (navy blue with tan top...very nice).

It could have been the fact that the car had never been serviced EVER! Handled like a boat, every bump I went over sounded like something was about to fall off. Overall i'm extremely pleased with my/our NSX's compared to the F-car. And as per some of our conversations, I didn't end up paying for the km's. A few reasons being that the tires were bald, 5 point (hand tied) seatbelts, no radio, and the seat didn't slide back. When I dropped off the car I offered to take him for a ride in real car  (when I get it back)..... OH! And i have to mention that when Dave (Red NSX 5 star split wheels) and I were heading back from Sean's cottage, we stretched ours legs getting on the on-ramp, and Daves NA NSX was right behind me.

I have owned a couple of NSXs in the past..one fairly modified with SC/Exhaust/headers.....as well as having owned a '95 355 at one point.
I must say that to me, the feel and handling of the 355 (compared to the NSX) wasn't as you described. Perhaps the one you drove needed some extensive mechanical sorting out?? The handling was at least equivalent (stock suspension vs stock suspension), if not slightly superior in the 355. At least, that's how it felt to me....no G tests were conducted!
I will be the first to say an unmodified NSX makes very sweet engine/exhaust sounds....but quite frankly, they weren't quite up to stock 355 sounds. Put in a Tubi, and your at a whole new level of auditory magic. I never really liked what the supercharger whine of the comptech setup did to my NSXs sounds...
The NSX with SC was fast, but pretty much about the same as the 355 stock. Then again, I was running a 3.0 litre with the 5 speed, I can't make a valid comparision to the 6-speed 3.2s...with or without SC'ing.
While the NSX is one hot looking car (even more so, when you consider it was a 1990-91 MY design!!) , the 355 is probably one of the most sensual auto designs of all time, regardless of manufacturer.
Don't take this the wrong way, I'm not bashing the NSX, in fact, I love that car....especially some of the extreme models you guys have amongst you (and you know who you are!). It's just that you might want to try another 355, it might surprise you.
That being said, when it comes to reliability and refinement, as well as bang for the buck!!....there is no comparision, the NSX beats the 355 hands down.
The interior of the 355 is brutal and dated, while I still find the NSX interior attractive and functional.
The stick shift in the NSX is a work of mechanical art, smooth snick, snick all the way...the 355 only shifted well when you flogged it...it didnt like driving slow and smooth. Also, better warm the 355 up before you attempt to screw with 2nd gear....
Also, you don't want to be driving a fully tubied 355 on the highway for more than a couple of hours...this baby is all Dr. Jeckyl!
The thing I appreciated most about the NSX was its' dual nature....gentile one second, a beast the next! This is probably why I went 550 after the 355....I missed that "duality" the NSX wore so well.

Certainly, to each their own, but I must respectfully disagree with your assessment based on my own experiences and tastes....

OOOPS... forgot to do this here as well....

GREAT JOB, ARSHAD!

THX AGAIN!...Nobody does these cruises better, and we are lucky to have you organizing them...not only for your "gang", but for the F-car and P-car guys as well!

HATS OFF!

Thanks for the insight Steve, great to hear from someone who has had ownership experience with both!

EDIT: Thanks again, and the credit also goes to Mark Walker (CDN_Wolf_Eh) with the silver C6 as he did much of the route planning, pre-run, police escort, restaurant arrangements and such with me. I couldn't have pulled it off without all of his help!

Perhaps some of Omer's comments can be attributed to the fact it was a spider he rented? The boat handling, the feeling of things falling off....also this sounds like a rough rental vehicle thats been around the block a few times.

Granted the one I had needed some SERIOUS mechanical attention, I wouldn't want to be recieving the bill for it. The gated shifting took a little getting used to, but I could see alot of money being spent in tranny repairs. A V8 3.5L would definitly sound better then a 3.0L V6, but once again a little mod here and there and it may be up to par. With regards to performance, and like I said above, Dave Crawford was on my ass when we stretched our legs. Now this could be due to the fact that some timing may have been pulled. Reason being is we found an EGT sensor zip tied in the bottom right corner of the engine bay (when your looking from behind) leading us to believe that there was some sort of FI on this car. Handling wasn't what I expected, but once again mechanical issues. My opinion is based on a poorly maintained 355 VS a Heavily modified NSX. If you were to do the math on what I spent on my car compared to what a used 355 is going for, hands down NSX. Like I said, this is based on my experience with the 355 (thats had the shit kicked out of it), then comparing it to a my NSX which is Turbo'd, suspension, all the chassis reinforcement, re-upholstered interior (to my liking of course) etc etc. And almost the same money in both, one is used and one is custom built. Hands down you wet your pants when you see the 355, and hear it, but I noticed the same amount of attention in the 355 as I get in the NSX. Unfortunatly this experience did leave a sour taste in my mouth, but hopefully if I do get the chance to take out another F-car hopefully it will be better. I realized that I can buy an F-car for almost what I have put into my car, but my car was be built for me, and to my expectations.

sorry I couldn't come to this one to take pictures... I had other plans :(

I noticed the same amount of attention in the 355 as I get in the NSX. .
Funny, this was one of the reasons for switching out of the 355, too much attention. Not just that, but the kind of attention too....
It seemed that, in the 355, every kid in a sporty car wanted to race, cut you off, give you the finger, stare, point, rev you at stoplights...it got way old real fast.
My NSXs got alot of attention too (especially the silver one), but didnt illict the same type of responses. Seemed the 355 pissed people off more, and the NSX was more thumbs up...if that makes any sense....

Unfortunatly this experience did leave a sour taste in my mouth, but hopefully if I do get the chance to take out another F-car hopefully it will be better. .

I would be happy to facilitate that experience for you at the next meet.
At least, the F-car will be mechanically sound (crossing fingers, LOL!)
Although not as tossable as the NSX/355, it has the torque your Sc'd soul would require ;)

I realized that I can buy an F-car for almost what I have put into my car, but my car was be built for me, and to my expectations.

Nothing beats something built to your specification!

I hope to experience it if we get the chance to swap for a while at the next meet.

Goldy, was that you in the 550 right infront of me along the top of the ridge heading toward Welland?

Wish I knew, Id have come by later to say hi.

Omar, Id put money on the F355 you drove being wacked. They're awesome cars that handle at least as well as our cars and will beat them down a straight road, too.

Plus, THAT SOUND! GOOD GOD THAT SOUND!

I like the look of them moreso, too. The ass end of a F355 is the best rear of any car IMO.

Makes perfect sense, people would yell at me, wouldn't let us out of gas stations etc etc, intentionally block you in. When I picked it up and got back to Barrie, I got pulled over instantly! By an unmarked cruiser, a marked supervisor cruiser, the expedition, and the SWAT Excursion. He said someone called in my tags, and that it happens all the time. In his words "Jealous people call in, not to worry this happens all the time."

Thats sounds great goldy, I will definitly take you up on that! I have a turbo charged soul:wink:

Most definitly my friend.

In every corner buddy!

Dude, try being stuck in traffic or driving 2 hrs home with that sound. Your head starts to ring, and my Vanessa got a headache

Arshad; What happened to the Carrera GT?

Yes sir...I was practically hanging out my front window at one point screaming back "Dave, Dave"!! when we had to stop at some stop sign (just before the "highway crawl" portion, and the infamous Black P-car incident, LOL) ...you were right behind me. With all the engine/exhaust sounds eminating from both our cars, I guess my voice couldn't compete.....neither could my driving skills...you were on me like a second skin until you passed!

I also spoke with you briefly when you arrived at the winery, but you were mobbed as soon as you got out of your car. I commented about how nothing in your car looked stock...the wing and the yellow seats in particular....very nice! We left after the winery portion (I was expected home at 6 PM).

I didnt see you at the inital start point...your NSX is kinda hard to miss, LOL!
Did you arrive later on?

Sorry, next time I will specifically hunt you down to say Hi and introduce myself.

Hi godly, I was part of the mob... I wanted to show my friend the difference between the CT Wipple Rotor and CT Autorotor in Dave's Car... I was wearing the Honda Racing crew shirt and I do remember you saying that as we all chuckled!

For that second stint, I followed the 2 Black F355 spiders. Munkey was behind us but we ended up losing him. They sort of knew where to go but it was just us 3 in the end until we hit the QEW.

Though my co-pilot couldn't believe it, I was keeping up with the 355s every time they opened up and other than the fact that I was in the long second gear and should have been in first a few times, I was able to stay pretty close.

With the exception of an exhaust, my car is basically stock. Very well maintained and in tip top condition, but stock power and maybe a little less weight...

I do have to say that the 355 exhaust note is VERY nice! It's got a nice high pitched ring to it. I've got a pretty loud exhaust but I've never really heard it on the road since I'm always the driver!
