Hey guys,Is there any other way to install a sub-woofer than just the box offered by Daliracing? its nice and holds a 8" round sub, but at 400.00 for just the empty box, that's a little steep for my overall budget....let me know of any others that sell any type of sub-enclosure . thks Brent P.S has anyone installed a custom box between the seats? kinda like the dodge viper?

How tall are you?
I have a box installed behind the drivers seat - about 6" deep. Nice big volume, would even accomodate a bigger diamter if desired.
It was in the car when I bought it - I started to move behind the pass. seat, but there is much less leg room on that side with the seat moved forward to accomodate it.

Note: the seat not in normal position - it is all way forward & upright just for the picture.
(I am 5'6" & still have a few inches between the back of seat & speaker in my normal driving position)

I did see a sub box installed between the seats on a car locally - sr71tg on this forum had the car - do a search for him & maybe contact directly to see if he has pics). It was trapezoidal shaped to fit between the seats., with the sub facing up if I recall - think it might have only been 6" though, but really, still plenty for the small cabin of the NSX.

Do you want to sell your box?

Me?
No, sorry.

It would be really easy to make one out of MDF though - my cabinet is 13" W x 24" H x 4 1/4" D - that takes an 8" sub & that size allows it to fit in the space between the panels - you could go wider, but then it would protrude further out, limiting the space behind the seat even further.

You might even be able to find something generic like that if you search around, Ebay etc
Check out this section

Found this on EBay - might work behind seat.

Good Luck!

I use a 6.5" bazooka. cut about 1" off and fit in to the passenger foot rest area(but need to remove the factory sub).

[ My local shop made a mold of the stock box in the passenger floor and I put an 8 inch sub in the new box. They did not charge much to make it and you can't tell it is there!!

Another option is to use Aura Bassshakers under each seat.

I personally am forming a fiberglass resin enclosure for an 8" JL Audio 8W3 - V2 and another one in behind the center console for a 6" JL sub which will also hold the replacement 4" four center/rear fill in the factory position.

I think that the biggest problem with the footwell location is getting the cabinet volume adequate for the size of the speaker - it needs about 0.5 ft3 for 8" sub; anyone trying to use any bigger than that is not going to get a good response from a cabinet that is compact enough to fit.
Mine is ideal @O.52 ft3 for an 8" - I would think that most of those in the footwell are undersized - yes, the speaker may physically fit in the shell, which in turn fits in the footwell, but there cannot be much air behind the speaker.

its ok... subs are un directional. muffled anyway..

Based on ability to fit an enclosure of appropriate size for 10" sub (& the size of the NSX cabin to begin with) I think 8" is adequate for the sub & you will probably get more pleasing results from it.
Polk are good speakers

I have made numerous subwoofer boxes for NSX's. What works the best out of over a dozen woofers tested is a Nakamichi ten inch in the footwell. I can offer any NSX prime a brand new Nakamichi for $140 and I am sure you will be pleased. The Nak has a very small magnet structure that takes up little of the internal volume of the enclosure allowing a ten to function optimally.

The location that works best is in the passenger footwell. Behind the driver seat is a substandard location. Eventually, someone will want to move seat back. The passenger side is unnoticable with the correct enclosure.

I have lots of deals on car, home and ,marine audio. Feel free to email for deals and advice.

Another option for you in regards to speaker choice is one with an inverted magnet since space is so minimal. I know Illusion Audio has this, though I'm not sure if any other manufacturer does this.

I'll soon be doing my stereo system and I'm sure I'll figure out something by then.

Let us know what you find out or go with.

I also remember reading/hearing of an NSX owner who builds custom boxes/enclosures for the sub, as well as the door speaker pods. Anyone remember who I'm talking about?

Andy, what model is this Nakamichi? Also, do you manufacture a box for this to fit the NSX? - Does it protrude beyond the existing footwell space or contained completely in the original profile? What is the volume of the box? (I'm not trying to be argumentive, trying to understand - most 10" subs need at aleast 0.65ft3 in sealed enclosure - what makes this one need less?)
What is price for enclosure?

Thank you for your inquiry. I am an Image Dynamics dealer as well as Nakamichi, Rockford Fosgate, Diamond, MBQuart, Pioneer, Panasonic, JVC, Blaupunct, Kicker, and many more. My company www.buzz-off.com has been perfecting car audio since 1982 with over 43,000 satisfied customers. Nsx's have been my passion having owned many since 1991. Currenty, I have a 97 Blue NSX-T.

Anyway, I have tried em all. The IDQ10 is what we have used in many NSX's. Our box volume is bigger than .5 as we form the fiberglass enclosure high and wide to the shape of the car floor not the old box. The Nak is far more musical and accurate than the rest and can pound when demanded. The Nak will perform awesome unless you flat out abuse it into distortion levels.

The best box can only be made with the car present but one can be made without and generally not require modification for each particular floor/dash variation.

Fiberglass NSX boxes take our installation team 2 days to make from start to finish. I can offer you a box for $400 plus sub if you participated in a group of boxes that I am making. Maybe we should make a post to see if others want to participate. Normally, we charge $650.

Regarding Illusion Audio, I have tried their inverted magnet design and could not get the sound quality. The Nak has a small motor structure giving us the best finsihed footwell angle. We protude unnoticably to most.

I am going to the Consumer Electronics Show(CES) Wednesday thru Sunday and may come back with other suggestions. By the way, to maximize performance of the sub in a small box applications takes an amp with some guts. Not nessesarily high wattage; Xtant has worked wonders in NSX's. Many get confused and look at high wattage claims that are often exagerated or irrelevant to actual performance.

Let me know however I can help out.

While retaining a some-what factory appearance, this custom subwoofer set-up doesn't stand out and is often over-looked.In addition, this design has no affect on the driver or passenger seating adjustments, space or comfort. Between the seats the new "rear upright center console" houses an 8" solo-baric facing upwards...

I bought this sub after seeing this picture of bonez's car. I have to say I am not that impressed.

This sub is also very expensive. The company is also out of business, so there is no warranty.

Texas91Brent, I know this is a very old thread but thought this would be interesting to add.

I am interested in your 400 dollar box, does it include the cover for that price?
Is it this one?
Thanks Brian.
