NSX was Keyed at Lunch Today HELP!

I spent some time in S. Africa -- where it's legal to shoot anyone who comes "near" your car. But then again, this is a knee-jerk reaction to the massive amount of carjacking in the country, so nevermind that doesn't help. I vote texas.

Sorry for your loss.

Careful Giving Out "Bogus" Advice

This is a great example of why I sometimes wish I lived in Texas. If you live there and catch someone vandalizing or trying to steal your property, you are within your legal rights to use deadly force against them.

You are definitely within your right to use deadly force to stop four things - theft (even if it is a lawnmower), rape, kidnapping or murder.

Vandalism is not in this category; however, robbery is. Now let's calmly think about it - if someone is trying to steal your NSX, you can shoot to kill. But if somebody scratches the paint? No way!! Unless the laws changed since the last handgun legislation, the person that dispensed this advice is terribly mistaken in the state of Texas.

One other thing.....while car paint scratches are not pleasant to deal with, all you vigilante cowboys out there that threat to cut the guys balls off if you catch him in the act, think for a moment. For it will be you in jail for a graver crime called assault. Assault trumps vandalism in all fifty states. Now who is behind bars?

NO FREAKING WAY !!!!

What is it with people !!!!
Why can't someone just leave others stuff alone. There is absolutely no reason to do that.
If I have a problem with a person I will deal them that person straight up but not attack the car.
Scum, scum, scum.

Odd how everyone wants to make a political statement instead of helping the guy.

Decide where YOU want to have the car repaired (preferably a top-notch body shop with lots of NSX experience). Bring the car to them, and ask them to deal with State Farm regarding your claim and getting it reimbursed. Most body shops do this all the time.

HAHAHA no My girlfriend was really pissed when she saw the car this evening. She wanted to go back out to the store and check for cemeras and then dust for prints on the car(anyone have access to NCIC?). As it turns out there are no security cameras that the store knows of in that parking lot. I spoke to the FXCO officer again this evening and they did call the store and see if anyone had reported anything or if there were cameras on the property. I was really supprised at the response I received from the police, they were really appologetic and tried to help all they could.

NSXTASY thanks for the response I think I am going to take the car to a few places and get quotes so that I am educated when I go to the claims office on Tuesday. My biggest concern is that they will not want to put the same paint back on the car. I guess I can look at it this way maybe I will get a new paint job out of this mess and it will turn out for the best....that mighh just be the beer talking...... I will prob be super pissed again in the morning.

Sorry to see that. I had acid poured on mine and it wrecked the paint. After it was fixed, it looks better than ever.

Wagon Works in Arlington is supposedly top notch. I have seen some of their work on another local NSX and was quite impressed. They may be a bit pricey for your insurance co. though.

If this is the place you want the work done, ask them about the insurance. Some top places will work with the insurance adjusters to get the repair fully reimbursed. Others will require an additional payment by the insured. You won't know until you ask.

Wagon works  Think of the highest price you would be charged, then 2x it, thats how much they will charge you. Work was ok, nothing near what it can be done better and alot cheaper for.

Try European Autobody in Fairfax ask for Chris.

Only if they find the body!

Sorry to hear about that. I'd feel back for the SOB who did that.

Karma will repay that SOB 1,000 times the pain he has caused other people.

Just makes me want to swear a lot and commit a violent crime towards the perpetrator (Just spent 5mins thinking about what i would do to the guy/kid). Cannot give you any advice, but offer my condolences. Good luck. :)

Oh, you’re a tough guy. So you are suggesting that whoever scratched the NSX would end up dead? That is about as intelligent of a gene pool sample as the person that scratched the NSX in the first place.

Just spent 5mins thinking about what I would do to the guy/kid.

What would you do if it was a female? Huh? As suggested above, it could’ve been a jealous girlfriend.

Some people have more angst in their head than logic.

Now, off of my political soapbox. There is a product called Langka (spelling?). That works wonders on scratches like this. A fellow NSXer here in Houston had his Monaco Blue NSX keyed shortly after he got it. Rather than dealing with the hassles of insurance and the paint shop, he applied Langka (sp?) to the scratch. I knew his car was scratched rather badly and I knew he used the Langka. The next time I saw the car I asked him about the scratch. His reply was along the lines of, “Take a look and tell me where it is.” To this day I cannot find the old scratch.

There are options. You can be HONEST and tell your insurance agent what happened. Tell him you will try a product you heard about from a fellow NSXer. Do an internet search and show him what it is. If the results meet your satisfaction, great. If not, then file a claim. Both of you are in a win-win situation if the former turns out positive.

If I remember correctly this product levels touch up paint so you don't see a big hump/glob of paint.
I hear it takes some practice to get it right.
I have leveled with 1500-2000 grit wet sand in small areas only.
I would not attempt to touch up those larger areas, but that is me.
Best of luck.

woooooooooooooow!!!!!!! That is freaking crazy!!!

Sprry about your car my friend. I just want to know how it is that NOBODY saw some jerks keying a bright red NSX?? You know some spineless dink had to see it and just did not want to get involved.

Wherever you take your car, just make sure that they know the very unique paint process that the NSX needs to match properly. It is very different from any other car.

Karma my ass. Vandals and thieves need and deserve a quick bullet through their brain matter.

Yeah I was hoping someone would come forward and say something to the police but no such luck. I figured someone would have seen something. Even if they did the police said it would be their word against the accused, so unless I caught them in the act or caught them on film it would likely get thrown out of court.

The first item I am buying for the car when I get it back from the shop is an alarm with a motion sensor and a pager. I am also never parking it anywhere near another car!

I have called a few shops and have set up times to have the car looked at so with any luck it will be over soon.

I'm sure hes only joking

:p

guys, why is it that i am allways seeing where these cars are being keyed? what is some peoples problems? just because we have nice cars they want to take some kind of revenge on us? if they really knew that some of our cars where 10 years old would they still think that we are yuppie scum or whatever they think? it just bothers me to hear about everyones misfortune. i keep an eye on mine and don't let anyone near it.

Wow, those scratches must be pretty deep, especially if they're that visible in the photos.

Another member you may want to consult is pbassjo. He's not in your area, but he does own a body shop and seems to know a lot about paint and NSX bodywork.

Good luck...

Also as an aside, this seems to be a great product so if anyone who has ever tried it can give any feedback it would be greatly appreciated.
