Nsxpo 2014 ?

I think it's very unfortunate and almost not smart for Acura (arguably weak at the moment) brand to not take advantage of this event to promote NSX 2.0;

I totally agree! I expect the organizers of the event went to great lengths to include Acura and the new NSX into this years expo, but for some reason (typical of Honda/Acura) they are missing a great opportunity here. Oh well. We will have a great time in Ohio with or without the new NSX!

 So my question is this. If we aren't planning to tour the new facility, why was it so difficult to settle on dates and why couldn't we find a date that Bob and Karen could attend?

The board of directors, which Bob is one of the 4 members, were the ones that were involved in selecting the dates. The nsxpo planning committee did not choose the dates.

Unfortunately the other 3 members heard one thing and Bob heard something different, hence the issue with the dates.

I heard that the weekend I chose for my wedding was good before I booked it. I was on the calls and know what was told to me and us. And subsequent emails also confirmed I was good to go before I booked so you are mistaken about suggesting I heard one thing and the other three heard something else. Since you weren't on the calls or part of the emails telling me I was good to go with my dates first perhaps you heard something else.

January 28, 2014 email (before I booked my wedding):

"****** targeted Nov3 weekend for nsxpo :) We can make it your honeymoon:):):)!!!!!!!!"

Subsequent to that email, you were involved in booking the hotel. After the hotel sent this:

"We are able to offer the last two weekends in October 23rd-26th, 2014 and the following weekend October 31st-November 1st, 2014."

You emailed this on January 29, 2014:

"Just wanted to let you know that I did look over the hotel contract. There are just some minor items I noted that we would want to address.

... from what ***** said was previously discussed the date would be over the November 1st weekend."

You then asked about getting a quote for mid-Ohio as follows:

"Could you get a quote from the track for that Monday and Tuesday after the November 1st and possible the Wednesday and Thursday prior?"

So it seems you heard the same thing I did and also heard it before I booked my dates weeks later.

why was it so difficult to settle on dates and why couldn't we find a date that Bob and Karen could attend?

I will miss my first NSXPO in 14 years but I obviously have some great plans for the weekend and am sure that everyone who attends NSXPO will have a great time. The conflict on dates is unfortunate for me but the dates were ultimately selected to benefit the Club of which I am only one member so although I appreciate the sentiment Pam (VE7NSX), NSXPO is not about me (and Karen) but our members.

I think this type communication between Board Members is best kept behind closed doors - ya think???

There are MANY who will not make this NSXPO or ones in the future for scheduling conflicts - yeah, so what?? Sometimes other individual priorities come into play and no doubt whoever makes it down will have a great time regardless of what is in store for us. It's very EASY to make accusations about Honda/Acura or any of the organizing committee but I am sure they are working around the clock on this to make this event happen and only HOPED that Honda/Acura would participate with the new NSXS. Last year Ted Klaus NEVER alluded to the fact that the new NSX would be part of NSXPO.........maybe he knew someone we didn't, and I'm sure there is a lot more to this then what you read on a public open forum. Not to mention anyone giving negative feedback towards the 2014 committee best give their head a shake and perhaps volunteer countess hours that it takes to get something this big out together. Go ahead and volunteer for next years event, or a local event and try to organize something - not easy, let alone something on this large of a scale.

The alternative was saying nothing and making us all wait until everything was finalized...........sure, then many would complain what was taking so long, want to book time off work, have to arrange babysitters, etc.........so now that they make an andvanced announcement they still get shafted. You can only please some of the people some of the time, and can't please all of the people all of the time.

Cheers to the organizing committee regardless if Honda/Acura will be there or not............it will be a blast regardless of who shows up!

Completely agree. Even if the car isn't 100% ready they could do a lot. Hopefully as Teej said they will figure out how to do something to get the NSX enthusiasts attending NSXPO fired up instead of throwing more cold water on them.

I was an engineer in the auto industry from 93-2000 and even back then when cash was flowing heavy from all the SUV profits and staffing was much higher then than now, any pre-launch activity for a new vehicle and/or powertrain was nutsy and hectic and chaotic with tight schedules and occasional pre-launch issues that would keep you up at night and sometimes get worked on up until the 11th hour before launch. It was an incredibly big and exciting process that I honestly don't miss due to the stress!

This is completely irresponsible speculation (tip of the hat to the Drew & Mike show in the 90's on WRIF Detroit radio) but I can only guess that the combination of a new vehicle *and* powertrain launch combined with the current state of reduced staffing, tighter schedules, and higher stakes in the auto industry now vs. 15-20 years ago all add up to an inability to commit to anything deemed non-essential. I'd bet the potential for goodwill marketing is less a factor than the potential bad press if someone in charge feels there are one or two current open issues with no guarantee of being solved by October, and/or they're experienced enough to know that they can't plan for the unexpected quite yet this far before launch.

I'm not tied into planning one bit and that is just my conjecture and opinion, along with the thought that: it's apparent that Honda hears NSXCA knocking on the screen door and asking if Ted or someone could come out and play with their new toy, and I'd be willing to bet that some type of show n tell may arise later if things are feeling under control to them in the Fall.

Just my opinion and conjuncture. No doubt that the things within control of NSXCA and the planners will be great.

Great! If I get to keep a new NSX for the weekend, I will gladly let other primers borrow it. This looks like it will be a great NSXPO.

Yeah they said no tour.... but I called and told them who I was and they said I could have a tour with drinks served by Swedish models and my group would be escorted by seal team 6......... Odd that they couldn't get it going for the entire NSXCA though.........

I'm an Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. and I get to drive the new NSX anytime I want to.

View of the new NSX or factory tour or Acura involvement or not, it will be a great NSXPO. It was nice to rub elbows ( and bend elbows ) with Ted and Doug in NC. But, I value the relationships that were formed with other NSX owners much more than the speakers telling us virtually the same thing I could read in Car & Driver a month earlier. If you asked me the first thought that comes to mind when NSXPO 2013 is mentioned I will answer it's the camaraderie that I experienced with my friends from San Antonio on the way there and back and the new friends I made while attending the event. This year, I'm looking forward to my first track experience on a track that I visited as a young Buckeye to watch GT races. How awesome is that? Acura will do what Acura wants or needs to do and no one can control that. There is a lot of time before this year's event and anything could happen. I choose to not let that influence my decision of weather or not I will attend or enjoy this year's NSXPO. I'll see you all in Ohio.

Just a quick question in the middle of all of this, I have paypalled my registration fee into NSXCA so I can attend the event this year (yay!!! my 1st NSXPO with my car I bought last year) I have the form filled out, is there a way (email address) that I can scan the reg form and email to them instead of fax/post?

I almost went last year to NC, but I am now glad that this event is in my backyard this year!!! I hope the event can get some 2nd Gen NSX thing going on, but for me, I am just excited to rep the Gen 1 !!!

You can email it directly to me at RSO34 at nsxca dot org

I agree, any fun gathering is about people, not things. As NSX owners we share a common interest, but good times with great people is what makes something truly memorable.

Notice they said "this year" so sounds like the door is open for 2015...

Everyone is reading into this WAY to much. Relax everyone.

NSXPO 2013 was my first one and I can tell you I did not go for Ted's presentation or for any of the events per say. It was about getting together with other NSX owners and just follow what was put together and / or make some of own events up. I have owned many cars in my life and I can honestly says there is no better car owner group then NSX owners ... period. My best memory of NSXPO was not the NSX 2.0 discussion(s), pictures, concept models, prizes, car show, Porsche exhibit etc., it was the people, Prime members and driving my NSX with others. It is so awesome driving and NSX ... but it goes to a whole other level when you drive with other NSX's. It just elevates the experience. I cannot even put words together to describe it.

The 2014 planning team has a tone on their plate and I am sure they have been hammered about the NSX 2.0, if it will be there order not. I am sure they were hoping that being in the back yard of the new factory, something might develop and it may. Under achieve and over delivery is what they are planning, I am sure of it. If they can make something happen, be it a factory tour ... AWESOME! Have an NSX 2.0 present even better! But please do not be disappointed. From what I have heard, all NSXPO's have been a great experience no matter what the schedule looked like. I've never heard of anyone being disappointed or complaining about NSXPO. So don't make your decision to go or not to go in 20914 because of the NSX 2.0 Trust me ... it's all about being around and meeting other NSX owners and fanatics!

The NSX 2.0 will be out when it's ready and there is nothing ANY of us can do about it. NSXCA, NSXCA members, NSX owners and nor the people that have already put their name and deposit in for one. I know three people that have ... and they have not even got a date to actually sit in the car they have already bought. So why would Acura let us be the first to do so. Just my thoughts. Unfortunately at this point I will not be able to attend NSXPO 2014 due to scheduling, however if that changes I will definitely be there!

Darrin

I'm thinking you mean under promise and over deliver?

I don't think there are any under achievers involved in putting on an NSXPO
