Damn, Dave. almost makes me want one!
Rob get on autotrader and check them out. Mine was a very low mileage 2009. I was on a tight budget and I had to search hard to get a car in that range, but before that I was looking at accords, subaru legacies. Etc. this car is in that price range, and it is not REMOTELY close. Makes those seem like a tin can. Every $1000 you go up in budget gets you a nicer genesis. By the time you are in the low to mid 20's you have almost topped out. Their warranty is 5 years 60K miles and 10/100 if certified. I know cars. Really well. I know a cheap car when I see one. I've been somewhat of a Hyundai fan but there are hyundais I don't like. Some models have some issues that need more work. They are not as polished overall as Honda or Toyota as a manufacturer yet. But the genesis sedan is a gem. I managed 37.8 MPG with the 300 HP V6 on my longest trip to NY and back. That's insane. It's 0-60 time is 5.9 seconds, and if I mash the throttle it chirps the tires every time. It's not quite a BMW or an AMG in terms of sport feel. I don't care, those are all slow and heavy compared to my NSX. I wanted something quiet, comfortable, something that wouldn't cost me a lot of money.
Your choices in that arena are BMW, MB, Audi. These are just unreliable cars and even if reliable the few times something goes wrong, it's a lot of money. I've played here before. I have owned big body benzes and BMW's. Lexus is vastly more reliable. But.... It's maintenance, parts, upkeep, is just as high as any European car. I've owned them too and know. Hyundai genesis and Equus are unique on that they play in that arena, yet their parts and maintenance are dirt cheap. Too many owners and even "car guys" still are hung up on the name. That reduces demand, and it kills resale values of such a flagship car. It makes it a killer used bargain. There aren't even that many around. Most people think it is a lexus LS, or if you do winged badges you have yourself a Bentley. Hahaha
This is what mine looks like. They have the V8, the R spec, the this and the that. Honestly.... You don't need it. The basic V6 has PLENTY of power. The non-lexicon stereo even, sounds really good. The basic models have a lot. Don't get caught up in the "I need 430 HP, I need the lexicon stereo, I need the V8 etc". That's how you go into a higher mileage car and really escalate your price. Stay basic, it has everything you need. Boston potholes feel better with the 17" wheels than the R spec wheels. Safety is stellar, any year.
