I can assure you that the value in attending NSXPO is
not in doing boilermaker shots with Hugh.
First of all, it doesn't cost $1000, or even $335, so please stop stating figures that are not accurate. Assuming you sign up by August 26, it costs $295 to attend the weekend social activities from Thursday evening through Sunday, and another $60 if you sign up for the Wednesday activities. What do you get for that money? You get five banquet meals (
good food, not rubber chicken), you get a really nice memento (have you checked out what was given away in previous years?), you get entertainment and
interesting guest speakers (you'll make your car buddies envious when you tell them who was there), you get seminars and technical demonstrations and vendor booths, you get tours of the Kennedy Space Center and Fantasy of Flight, and if you sign up for Wednesday, you get a tour of Daytona with lunch, and a pizza dinner and go-karting in the evening. You also get to check out over 100 NSXs and meet 200 other NSX owners who are great people to hang out with, and also Hugh. The best value of all is the ability to make new NSX friends and, for those who have been to previous events, to see old NSX friends again.
Is that all it costs? No, there are other costs, to be sure. You need to pay for a hotel room. You can stay in the headquarters hotel for $139 a night, or you can find someone to split a room with you in the headquarters hotel for half that amount, and you can be in the center of all the action. If you don't want to stay there, you can also stay in any number of other hotels in the area. (Right now Hotwire is offering a two-star hotel in the vicinity for $27 a night, and Orbitz has a three-star for $59 a night.) And you need to pay for transportation there and back, whether you're driving or flying.
The track event has separate costs, for those who are interested in driving their NSX on the track at Sebring. It's $450 for the two-day track event, if you're also attending the social activities (otherwise it's $550). That is actually
less than most similar events at Sebring, such as those run by
Chin Motorsports.
If you've never been to an NSXPO before, and you'd like to get a better flavor for what goes on at the event, I suggest you check out some of the extensive descriptions of past NSXPOs in the FAQ:
NSXPO 2003 (Northern California)
NSXPO 2002 (Texas)
NSXPO 2001 (Wisconsin)
NSXPO 2000 (Georgia)
NSXPO '99 (Northern California)
NSXPO '98 (Ohio)
You can also search the forums for topics written following NSXPO 2005 (Arizona) and NSXPO 2004 (New York).
Every year, some people say that they're just not sure it's worth it. Then, after the event, attendees write a whole lot of posts about what a great time everyone had. And those people who decided not to go say the same thing, year after year: "I wish I had known it was going to be so much fun, I would have gone for sure!"
It
is the most fun, by far, that you can have with your NSX. With your clothes on, anyway.
Hope to see you there!
