My car gonna go to the shop tomorrow, it's gonna be in the shop for 3 days, so my question is what kind of car would an insurance company Reimburse me for?

Do you think I could get away with a convertible mustang? Or even better?

Just wondering what kind of car I would be entitle to.

You're entitled to whatever you can rent for the max daily rate that is allowed by the applicable rental coverage.

lol the car you bring in for service has nada to do with the rental...

Its going to be a small compact car .... but you can rent what ever you want. You just have to pay the difference out of your own pocket

Double check with your insurance company as you may even not be entitled to any rental at all. In that case you better make a deal with the shop owner, quite often they can lend you a "convenience car", that's usually a shop owned car that they lend to good customers. At least i know that Honda dealerships around here can do that. In any case that will be a small entry level compact...

I know of an exception, the Toyota dealership near where i live had a *very* good customer (owns multiple Toyotas, including their top of the range 4x4) who had a sudden issue on his 4x4 and still had to go for a business appointment in a hurry - they lent him a Supra TT. He went to that appointment with quite a few minutes to spare ;) It helps if you know the shop owner personally.

.............maybe a 97 nsx..............

at first I thought this was a joke thread like april fools or something then I noticed he was serious.

so your thinking is: if you are dropping off a NSX that your insurance should cover you for a upper tier car like a Ferrari, Vette, Porsche, because god forbid you have to drive a brand new 2015 Acura loaner car( TL, TSX, RL, RDX, MDX ) car for a few days

this is I think why America is where it is today entitlement .
Well the other dealership gives you a foot rub while you wait,
the other dealership bring you coffee and a pillow and escorts you to their lounge for shots and drinks while you wait,
the other dealership calls all you appointments for that day and tells them you are running late,
the other dealership offers BJ's to NSX owners while they are waiting,
The other dealership has a private booth with porn to watch and or the magic hole that you insert your manhood into and one of the office women on the other side will milk you. LOL

not tring to be a dick but man this is really bad.

Some one hit my fender and my car gonna be in the body shop. It's gonna be a 3 day repair. I'm planning on renting a car out of my pocket and hopefully get reimbursed. The lady insurance is infinity, I had a quote done for $1200 by her insurance, I been calling them about the rental, but no one has return my calls. Therefore I'm taking my Nsx in tomorrow and renting a car on my own. I just wanna know what kind of car I can rent within reasons and get reimbursed.

Happened to me with me previous car. Insurance arranged the rental, not me - you should read your insurance contract, it's clearly in there (or not !).

@Shawn I like the idea of NSX owners getting free BJ's and feet rubbing. That should come with the regular maintenance schedule, with a stamp in the owners manual.

i been calling the other insured all week, no response, they picked the shop which I agreed but never said anything about rental.

Most insurance company offers hertz or something like that. I'm not going thru my insurance company. So I need to rent a car tomorrow and worried if I rent a convertible mustang, I won't get reimbursed.....

stucked.....

shawn I have no clue what u mumbling about. I'm pretty clueless to ur comments. Btw where are the dealerships that offers bj.... I want one

If your car was damaged in an accident and the other party was at fault, then they must pay for a rental car that's comparable to the car they damaged. However the reality is that the other party's insurance company will probably only offer to pay for an inexpensive rental car. Their refusal to answer your question in a timely manner is merely a tactic designed to discourage you from renting a more expensive car since they may very well have to foot the bill. However you may have to fight in order to get them to pay for the convertible Mustang. But if you're tenacious and persistent I'm sure you can get reimbursed.

Since it appears you're in California, here is the relevant law....

I got hit in an accident a few months in my 09 GL550 which got totalled out. The other party's insurance only cover $25 a day in rental car with a maximum of $500 total. I ended up getting a van for $35 a day in which I had to pay $10 a day out of pocket. Doesn't matter what kind of car you own and how much its worth, it all depends on the insurance rental coverage.

The rental companies should stock some vintage cars for just this occasion. You bring an old ass car to get worked on and they give you a 1998 rental Taurus to give you the same period feel.

I was able to get a c class Benz from enterprises car rental today, they are doing direct billing to the insurance. Cost me zip.

Some people seems pretty hostile on this forum. Why is that???

Btw. You are entitled to a similar car for a rental. In fact, I could of hopped in a 2013 convertible corvette but I didn't want to pay the extra insurance..... I'm just. Passing along knowledge for my fellow nsx-ers. See ya at the expo....

That at makes no sense.... Seems like you got the short end of the stick. From my understanding, the at fault party insured has to rent you a similar car to your damaged one. Therefore there is no limits on what kind of car you can rent, however it needs to stay with in their coverage liability limits, which includes the repairs of your car.

Fine example: if I own the Bmw i8 and it gets damaged by someone else that is totally at fault, I'm sure they won't rent me some $25 a day car. That's why enterprise has an exotic line of car rental.....

If I went thru my own insurance, there are limits to what you can rent, that's in ur policy when you purchased it.

So I hope this info will help for future reference....

Don't take it personally...I was teasing because your thread title could be interpreted literally....which could be anything from a Ferrari loaner to as someone else alluded to a 98 vintage car....

NSXBum is correct. Your understanding is totally wrong.

If the other party was 100% at fault then they are liable and must pay for an equivalent rental vehicle. The amount the other party is liable for has no relationship whatsoever to what their insurance policy states. If you had to pay extra out of your own pocket in order to get an equivalent car to your GL550, then their insurance company misled you in order save themselves some money.

Considering what a 98 NSX would sell for today, I think NSXBum could have easily made a solid case for renting a Corvette.

Glad you got that sorted. Insurance is supposed to provide you with a similar car to what you have. I can confirm this, because last winter, we were driving in my wife's Kia Soul and some idiot drove into us head on. When we got to the rental place, the guy offered me any one of his fine fleet of shitty cars...all the way UP to a KIA Soul!!

Update:

got out my car outta the shop yesterday. Repair was perfect. Return my car last night. Got a call from the insurance company, the adjuster said that given my 1998 Nsx and its rarity, he was willing to pay up to $120 a day.

I sorta feel cheated. They tell me this after the fact. I was phone banging him all week last week about the rental situation. After everything said and done, it's just another tactic for them to save money. I was worried about the amount they were gonna reimburse me.

For future references $120 is the sweet spot for them

glady to have my Nsx back....

time to chrome wrap her for the nsxpo.

But how much would it cost to rent an NSX? While it's extremely unlikely you could rent an actual NSX anywhere, a 98 NSX currently sells for somewhere between the price of a F355 and 360 coupe. If I look up the cost to rent one of those, I get prices between $500 and $1000 per day. So surely a rare sports car like an NSX would rent for more $120/day. I feel it would rent for at least $300/day if not more. The insurance guy is low balling you.

You can rent an NSX from Classic Car Club Manhattan
