So here are my impressions:

Clearly we were VIP'S. no pictures, confidentiality agreement. Like a "Mission Impossible" adventure. could talk to everyone. they wanted my input on the car. You can eat off the factory floor. producing 4 a day, many being exported. Clement stopped over. i met him at NSXPO. Steak lunch was private. Did not notice the Honda badge. the blue was striking. Drove on the track with track mode and launch control for 4 hours. excellent instructor who did not push me. i opted to ignore the hot lap. went to the Anna engine plant. I met everyone on the NSX hand assembly in their private room, and met the person who built my engine 457. they are now over 1,100 engines produced. extremely expensive experience but worth it. I took my son who lives in Columbus, and was thrilled and awed by everything, especially the NSX performance on the track.

nice ....thanks for the cliff notes:cool:

Thanks Bruce,

I am glad you had such a good experience.

It sounds like they have done a nice job putting together the tour.

Amazing that you can crank on the car for hours on the track and not have any issues with the it (assuming this as I would have expected you would have noted something if the car had problems during your seat time).

thanks for sharing! sounds like an amazing experience!

i'm an NSX specialist and I haven't seen the inside of the factory. just the outside as we passed on a tour bus. :(

They are open to trades too....

I drove this for about a mile....nice dealer....high volume i think they have sold 3. I think 2 sales were to columbus crew soccer players who are sponsored by acura(not sure if that gets them a good price or not)

There was a meeting a couple months before that event in OH where dealer principals and managers got to tour PMC. The amount of cleanliness in there compared to HAM next door makes it seem like you could do open heart surgery there.

So tempting! Must resist. This thing is pimp'd out.
4th time listed at 24k under msrp with no miles and popular color and yet no buyers.....

And a used title-- does that cause any complications? Someone had big dreams about flipping this one. The red interior is a huge turn off for me, but you'd think someone would like it and get a great deal.
3 miles and a 2nd owner already? no kidding... Not sure if that would bother me personally but i'm sure there are picky folks out there.

It's still a Acura that costs 175K that is still why many people do not want it.

The brief update:

As of yesterday 191 new ones on cars.com, about a third of these are MSRP $200K and up. Point being, inventory is selling down but there are a lot of high spec cars that folks won't reach for.

The big test drive event with street and track time is happening out at the Honda proving grounds in the desert a few hours from LA. Apparently a large group of folks are signed up. Unclear if future events will include both street and track time like this one.

A third car has been crumpled.

They know about the thermostat issue but not about the gas tank gasket issues, both leading to multiple codes being thrown.

Acura does not inject opinions to dealers on how many parts to replace on repairs like my windshield (noting that my project was literally 2x another person's).

Interesting. The last news I remember seeing here on Prime about
Honda's desert proving center was when Honda closed it seven years
ago and put it on the market. I had no idea that it didn't sell and that
Honda has since refurbished it. Good for Honda and very cool that
they're planning a test drive event there.

A little over ten years ago Hyundai built a track in the CA desert not far from Honda's.

I also asked if Acura was working on certifying a Michelin summer tire for the car.

He didn't think so but Michelin may be doing a rework of one of their tires for the NSX.

Actually. They kinda do. If there is a service/repair procedure for any given thing, the service manual instructions do in fact say whether to replace or reuse associated parts. For example, a procedure for replacing a suspension component might specify to replace almost all of the bolts that were removed to access that part.

In your case, warranty "book" time is 3.2 hours. For customer pay, they probably charged for 4.0 hours. The procedure calls for the headliner to be removed along with all kinds of A-pillar trim pieces. The windshield gets replaced with the upper and lower rubber dam pieces as well.

However, most dealers actually sublet windshield replacement jobs out. An aftermarket company will do the work. Many times, these aftermarket companies don't have the service procedure, but they figure all glass is the same and have a flat fee they charge. They will also reuse rubber dam pieces and so on if new ones were provided to them.

This could certainly explain the differences between the costs.

The glass repair itself was sub contracted and that part only came to a few hundred of the bill.
The big difference between my project and the other one mentioned was that my car had all of the multi part garnishes (what ever they really are) replaced.

Its a 2 hr event that includes:
45 minute closed course track drive
Hot laps with a pro driver
45 minute street drive

I have 5ish interested customers going.

Acura was "supposed" to have 2 in California, but opted to consolidate them in SoCal. No lodging or transportation to/from the event. Its in the middle of nowhere.
