i was thinking of putting 18's all round on my 91 manual...jap spec, using
225 40 18 fronts and 265 35 18 rear rubber....i am new to this nsx tuning and have read most tyre posts alway quote differing wheel sizes front to rear ?...in addition their is a lot of talk re..tcs light issues when changing up in wheel sizes, I would appericate comments guys

If you want to go 18" all around, I would recommend 215-35-18 up front, and either 265-35-18 or 275-35-18 in the rear. You can't go wrong with those sizes.

Your 225-40-18 in the front is just asking for trouble.

I agree on the 215 in front, and the 265 in the rear. 275 will result in slower acceleration due to the effective gearing, and will result in some speedometer and odometer error.

I agree; they are WAY too big (8.7 percent larger outer diameter than stock). They are likely to rub, as well as to cause problems with the traction control. Don't do it.

Also, before buying 18" wheels all around I would suggest you first do two things:

1. Read this topic.

2. Look at an NSX with 18" wheels all around in person, to see whether you really like that "look". As you can see from the comments in the link, many folks don't like the different size sidewalls (front vs rear) that result.

Cheers all for the comments...sounds like 16..17 combo the best for all round, this will help retain ride etc....or 17 ..18 for over all good looks...one small point....what exact off set should i have and what tyre size i would like to ge tthis right first time as i dont want the trouble with "tcs" lights etc...the car at this time is on 15..16 oem..and they don't make a "zr" rated 15 in the uk any more...besides the car begs for bigger wheels.

Good summary.

For 16"/17", you can use the stock '94-01 sizes, 215/45-16 front and 245/40-17 rear. You can even use the OEM tires (Bridgestone RE010 or Yokohama A022H) that come in those sizes. The 215/45-16 size is not all that common; if you're using other tires, you may need to get a 205/45-16 to go with the 245/40-17 size. Best wheel widths are 16x7.0 or 16x7.5 front and 17x8.5 or 17x9 rear. The TCS will be fine with any of these tire sizes on your '91, and they shouldn't rub.

For 17"/18", you can use 215/40-17 front and either 255/35-18 or 265/35-18 rear. Best wheel widths are 17x7.5 front and either 18x9.0 or 18x9.5 rear. The TCS will be fine with any of these tire sizes, although the 265 rear is a slightly better match on your '91, and they shouldn't rub. (The 255 rear is a better match on the later cars.)

I'll let others chime in about optimal offset on aftermarket wheels.

When I was considering 18" all around or 17/18, for the rear what I was actually considering was 255-35-18 or 265-35-18. I didn't want to do 275 because of the points mentioned by NSXTASY. I actually would have done 255 because it almost identical to in circumference to my stock 225-50-16.
