I saw that this weekend. Such a great commercial!! Acura is clearly trying to use nostalgia to boost sales. Unfortunately I don't think modern cars will ever evoke the same kind of emotion... at least not for me.
So the commercial is a failure if it’s not enticing you to buy one of the new Acura products. Hence proving that the Acura execs are out of touch with their customer base.

Hey Robert, I know you have your thoughts on the situation, but I would love to buy a NC1, just not realistic for me right now.
So, I don't think the commercial is a failure.
