my heater doesn't seem to be working properly. it comes on for a little while, blows 'warm' air, then starts blowing cold. any ideas? thanks.

Thermostat perhaps?
do you know of anyway to check that?
Sounds like a sticky thermostat to me as well. Does your water temp gauge stay to a low indication?

the water temp seems to be functioning properly. it gets up to around the mid point after the engine gets warm.
There is an interior temp sensor behind the slotted area near your hand brake. On older cars this can accumulate quite a bit of crud in it as it uses a very small fan to sample the air. Sometimes a dirty sensor will bring in an inaccurate interior temp reading.
