I have a built in k40 radar that was built in, the previous owner didn't know if it worked. The on/off button is built in where the ciggerette lighter was. When I turn it on all it does is beep every 2 seconds. And that's all it does. Doesn't alarm me from cops, just keeps beeping at its normal pace. The computer is located in front behind the bumper, I wanted to get a radar that works and I want to utulize the old wiring, any advice thanks

My car also had the K40 radar detector that was installed by the dealer at the time of original purchase. Back in the day, it was a good detector but now is pretty much worthless.

I removed my K40 from mine and it was quite a job. The system is composed of two detectors (one in front and one in rear). The controller is actually located within the actual knob that you turn the system on/off with.

Upon removing the system, I could not see how any modern systems can simply "hook-up" to the existing wiring. Not sure what your display looks like, but mine only had three LEDs which is again of limited use.

The only system that I could think of that "might" piggy back on the existing wiring passing through the firewall is the Escort Qi45 system. I believe that it uses a RJ-11 4-wire setup and that should be able to spliced into the wiring harness of the front detector. Again, not sure on this so you probably want to look at the Escort schematics first.

Personally, after removing the K40, I simply use a Valentine1.

So what I should do is bring back everything back to stock and just get a Valentine 1

They have been building K40 systems for decades; the problem is, with a sportscar as old as the NSX, it may have a period-correct K40 installed, which is useless (or your system might not be functional).

Do you know what generation is installed? You may be able to use the power wiring, and you can use the old wiring to help install replacement wiring.

An integrated solution offers several advantages over a portable detector like the Valentine 1 (concealment, less interference, better detection ranges, and integration with laser jammer units).
