Wow. How could these guys get it so wrong? I was looking for something else on the web and ran across this:

http://www.caranddriver.com/features/supercar-supermarket-feature-acura-nsx-page-2

In 2001 they were predicting things like the following regarding the upcoming "second generation NSX" to debut in 2002...

"The new model will be powered by a version of the 3.5-liter DOHC 40-valve V-8...expected to give the new NSX 200-mph capability....[The new NSX is] expected to be dimensionally similar to the current car and also to reflect the car's significantly higher performance aspirations. Also significantly higher will be the price -- about $143,000."

At least they got the performance and price close to correct...Just 14 years early.

Love the pic, though. Take a 2001 model, lower the side vents, graft on an S2000 front end and, voila, a second gen NSX. Actually I think the front end treatment suits the rest of the car rather well but I guess the extra retooling would have been too expensive. Or maybe nobody at Honda reads Car and Driver.

After I saw the picture I couldn't even read the article. What a waste of journalism.

that is a horrible picture, but as I own a 2002, it's not really that far off what they actually did. if only Honda had chucked that 400 horsepower V8 in there...

Well, one thing I will have to take back. Apparently there was a prototype front engine rear-wheel drive NSX around that time that was based on the S2000 platform and retained much of the front end styling. I learned this recently in one of the car mag articles about the long gestation history of the gen-2 NSX. Don't recall which mag.

Are you talking about the S2000-fronted test mule? http://www.worldcarfans.com/10705224299/spy-photos-honda-mule---next-nsx

Or the HSV concept that eventually raced in JGTC? http://www.autoblog.com/photos/honda-hsv-10-gt/

This...

And I don't know if it is an artist's rendering or a photo, but I have seen the same styling combo in a different source (forgot where) and it was silver.
