Got a deal on a Black Vue dash/rear camera combo (DR750s).

I am hoping this should be linkable to the entertainment system.

Anyway, I will be taking pictures and documenting the install and results.

If anyone wants info on the 750, here is a link.

I am also researching mounting (I don't like tape) and have been looking at the BlendMount offerings.

They are not cheap.

My first "mod" was to install a dashcam. I went with the Viofo A119 because it is quite discrete. I mounted it next to the rearview mirror, so just the camera lens peaks under the black area of the windshield. I used a hardwire kit and a fusetap, connected it to the passenger side fuse box and ran the wire in the A-pillar. It is completely reversible but removing the A-pillar trim is a pain. In fact I couldn't completely remove it but was able to push it out of the way enough the get the wire through.

Others recommend using the Blendmount mirror tap connector, which is just some pins soldered to ends of the wire and pushed into a nearby power connector. If you want to go that route, there really is no reason to purchase that cable since you can just solder a couple of pins yourself.

i still have that bfgoodrich s2k poster too. i think i have some others in that series too.

I ordered a BlendMount from AMAZON and was surprised to get an email from BlendMount.

They wanted to make absolutely sure I got the right mount for the car.

Had me take pictures of the mirror stalk just to make sure.

I bench tested the camera and it works.

Getting the software to play on my Mac forced me to upgrade the OS (it was free), but that took a few hours.

Worked right off on my Windows laptop.

Update:

Here is the BlendMount camera mount on the rearview mirror stalk.

FYI Part # BBV-2000R

The camera is completely hidden behind the mirror and no sticky crap on the windshield.

Wiring is not complete!

Well, wiring was "duck soup".

Helps to read the manual! lol

There is a 12 volt plug on the passenger side.

Active when car is on.

Perfect.

My car is only 5 days old and I already installed my Dashcam. I have tried nearly everything on the market and for my money it doesn't get easier to use than the Garmin Dash Cam 55. I love mine. I know it's not for everyone but it's very small and zero nonsense with great quality image. I ended up wiring it under the trim along the seat, behind the passenger seat, up the back over the side of the roof line and under and through the rear view mirror channel. You can't see any wiring anywhere and it came out very very clean. I'll post pics later. The think I love about the 55 is that it has a nice screen on the back where I can check alignment, view footage and do settings in the car quickly. It can also transfer clips wirelessly to my phone pretty quick and has a easy to remove sd card slot. That and the very small form factor does it for me.

I have been using a full hard wire installed 2 camera BlackVue DR650 cloud model for three years now. If anyone has any questions, I can share my experiences.

warren - I would be interested. If my memory is still worthy, I think your old posts about DRL and fog lamps were very well done. So yes, I would love to see how you took on this project. I am interested in getting one for my NSX as well. TIA - Speedmaster

John,
You are going to need a “Power Magic Pro”. Mount that above your drivers kick panel along the bottom edge via some auto body double face tape.
Connect that to the nearby fuse box accessory wiring terminals +12V constant and +12V ign switched.
Run the Power Magic Pro output up behind the door opening vent with the door open. Two screws remove that vent. There is room for the cig lighter male/female connector and extra wire to be hidden there.
Run the power lead up to the drivers A pillar and along the windshield to the front BlackVue camera.
You can fish the rear camera wire to the rear window using a fish tape. Mount the rear camera on the inside of the window between the cabin and engine compartment.
Use 64G micro SD high endurance memory. You will be disappointed with others. Format in FAT32 using the BlackVue PC software
I have a wi-Fi router in my garage that allows me to download via cloud connect.

Bump - any guidance on where to get power for the dash cam? If I got the car, I was planning to hardwire my radar detector from the mirror area but is it OK to run the same wires for dash cam or do I need to find another power source (e.g, passenger side fuse box)? Which gets power only when the car is on (may be the wiper 7.5?).

I am going to hardwire mine (someday).

However, have you tried checking the price for a spare DC cable for a BlackVue?

OUTRAGEOUS!

I had added the connector for using the OEM battery tender. It is under the glove box. When I installed I remember that connected rather easily to the fuse box or aux. A fuse also goes in and I would imagine that you could easily tap into the power. The problem might be that it is continuous connected to the battery which may make it less desirable. I have to think connecting under the glove box is easier than going to the back panel behind the seat. I already use a mirror tap for the Escort 360C Radar detector so I would need to splice in elsewhere. I like the idea of a camera in front. When I had the 91, we were driving on the freeway when in front a big pickup truck with all sorts of junk inside let a facet heat fall out. It went right into my radiator and took me a week and a half to get it repaired. The insurance did cover it. But I would liked to have given them the Lic plate of the truck.
