I know this question is loaded since it depends on where you live.
Anyone care to share the approximate cost you paid for a re-paint??
Same color, not a color change.

I need to repaint the hood, nose, both front fenders, and rear bumper.
(all due to rock chips and fading, the paint is 20 years old) Formula Red R-77 (three stage)

Or would it be wiser to paint the entire car to ensure a match??
Thanks

My body guy quoted me $5500 to be done the right way. $8500 for a color change. If your bodyman is good you shouldn't need to paint the entire car.

I got my last nsx painted in and out color change $5k if you pay more than that you paying way to much. Here is a picture of it.I no longer have it :frown:

So how much would it cost to have the roof painted red to match the entire car? My 93 have black roof btw.

Sorry, dont mean to hijack your thread OP.

I've seen a lot of full repaint quotes and this is low IMO. So many variables, hard to say why one price is lower, but this conversation is way more complex than a simple price and coverage comparo.

I've seen $5k jobs that look ok, but definitely do not hold up well to $8k jobs, but the owner is thrilled. Is it possible to over pay/get a bargain? Sure... But you need to know what you're comparing:

1-experience, expertise and cleanliness of the shop
2-type of paint
3-process being followed both in terms of prep and paint
4-coverage area and effort going into it

I don't see how you get excellent and factory level coverage aftermarket for $5k, but maybe its possible

It was painted by a guy that been doing this his whole life.He is a well known guy in LA New Orleans.First day I bought it I took it any drop it off to him.A week later the whole entire car was apart.I mean APART.Took him a month painted and put back together..Honestly to me came out better than the factory painted job. After about five year I sold the car.Within those five years I didn't have a problem with the paint what so ever.Always super shiny.Kept wax on it ever now and then.AND that was five plus years ago so now or days prices on material went up alot so yea back then price is different from now or days price to get a car painted

I see you are in Colorado, I recommend you talk to the guys at Fogg's body shop in Colorado springs. I own a detail shop in Steamboat Springs (spent 15 years looking at paint 12 inches away) and have worked on 3 race cars they recently painted and they do a great job at a reasonable price. As far as what you should pay that all depends on how good you want it to turn out. $300 for maaco to well the sky is the limit, but I would think 5-7 grand for entire car.
I am not sure what year your car is but if it is getting close to 20 years I would not just paint half of it and worry about clear coat failing on the other half in a few years just paint it all and be done with it.

That's a beauty, did u sell it to a prime member?

Depending on your mechanical abilities, you can save some money dissasembling/reassembling most of your car. I did this years back on my MR2 and Grand National. Plus I enjoyed knowing I played a big part in it. It was a very satisfiying feeling. It answers the question why they charge what they charge. It's alot of work.

CLR Autobody & Restoration is an NSX specialist, and probably the only bodyshop I ever recommend to the NSX community. Mainly because of the factory process, of how this car is painted. Also, because imo, it is important for a bodyshop to know the proper procedure with both teardown and re-assembly.

Over the years, of dealing various bodyshops, I would always find myself having to replace broken clips or having to re-purchase OEM hardware that was not re-installed by the Bodyshop. Greg @ CLR, is very meticoulous and consertative on pricing. More importantly, you get what the NSX deserves (these aren't Honda Civics), and are getting it back with anything less then factory quality. I think it's sad, when I see an NSX with a horrible paint job, mis-aligned bodyparts and overspray everywhere. He uses Glasurit BASF paint. I currently have him doing a fresh respray on a 92 Berlina Black NSX, and will be posting in the builds section, soon.

Good luck, either way.

I would add Vince's Auto Body to that exclusive recommendation list. I would only trust Joe (member pbassjo) with body work on my NSX, especially a full repaint. My car was repainted in 2005 (before I owned it) and it is mostly ok, but there is overspray on the side sills and a drip on the driver's door. Very annoying.

Wait, so your car was repainted but with flaws such as overspray and a drip on the door, yet you are still recommending this shop?!? Or did you mean your car has these repaint flaws but are unrelated to Vince's? ie are they seperate nonrelated statements.

They are separate statements. I do not know who repainted my car in 2005 because I did not own it at that time. Whoever did did a 7/10 job with a drip on the door and overspray on my side sill.

I have seen Vince's Auto Body work on other NSXs and know Joe. They are among the best in the country and if I needed body work on my NSX I would send it to them.
