On offer is my exceptionally clean ’91 coupe. I considered quite a few other cars before securing mine here on Prime five years ago, and I have only put a couple thousand miles on it during my ownership. It has been a weekend and evening back road cruiser. I always maintain a small car collection (NSX, 911, Boxster, Miata, Corvette, Tesla, etc.,), so none of them rack up many miles. I don’t ever leave it parked anywhere or drive it on the highway, and generally just try to keep it out of harm’s way. When not being driven it’s tucked away safely in my garage on a battery tender.

Exterior
The Formula Red paint is in excellent condition, ceramic coated, and super slick. I’d give it a 8.5 out of 10. It’s obvious that the car has always been kept indoors and well preserved. There are a handful of small blemishes on the mirrors and front bumper, and the black front lip is scuffed a bit. Nothing else notable anywhere else on the car, and the paint generally looks/feels like glass.

Right after taking delivery, the previous owner had Xpel Ultimate paint protection film installed on the front hood, fenders, headlights, mirrors, front bumper, rocker panels, door cups and air inlets. He also had the roof panel wrapped in gloss black Xpel for added protection. Xpel Window tint (Xpel XR35) was applied to the side windows, while clear XPEL ceramic tint (Xpel XR80m) was placed on the front window and rear hatch.

As you can see in the pics, the frunk, engine bay, underbody, and trunk are all incredibly clean, and it’s hard to believe the car is 30 years old. People who don’t know what they’re looking at typically think it’s a modern car.

The included OEM ‘fat five’ wheels are also in outstanding condition. They show a couple tiny blemishes, but they are in shockingly good shape with no curbage, etc. The tires look like they have only a handful of miles on them, but they do have date codes from 2013.

In November 2015 the right front fender was replaced by a previous owner when the car was backed into in a parking lot (I have receipts for $2,966.73 and photos). The paint was barely scuffed, and the fender was pushed out slightly. As you can see in the pics, it was superficial cosmetic damage only. It was so minor that it could have just been painted and aligned, but the previous owner wanted a new fender and claimed the damage on insurance (hence the ding on the Carfax report…also included in the photo gallery). The front bumper was repainted at the same time to clean up the scuff and remove some rock chips. It was covered in XPEL not long after, so it still looks great overall.

Interior
The interior is in excellent condition. The dash is perfect, and the gray plastic center console surround has a minimal amount of the usual finish crinkle/shrinkage, with no cracks. The ivory carpets are super clean, as are the black floor mats. The seats were recovered by the owner before last. I wish I knew where they had the seats done, because they are covered in the softest leather I have ever seen. Everyone who touches them can’t believe how good they feel.

Mechanical/Maintenance/Repairs
The car runs, drives, and shifts beautifully, and all switches and controls operate as intended. It pulls hard, sounds outstanding, and is super smooth at full tilt. The Science Of Speed (SOS) headers and Endura Lite exhaust provide just the right volume, with a fantastic baritone bellow as the revs climb. The clutch feels perfect with zero slip (recently replaced within the last 16k miles), and the brakes haul the car down in a hurry when required. To get the handling balance I desired, I added an OEM Zanardi rear sway bar and swapped wheels to OEM 16”/17” wrapped in relatively narrow tires (205/225). The original muffler, original rear sway bar, and OEM fat five wheels are included with the car.

The previous owners took fantastic care of the car. Although the vehicle was in the snap ring range and had never had a failure, the owner before last had the transmission case and all associated snap ring components replaced when they bought the car (receipts for all the work included). The water pump, timing belt, and all hoses were replaced, as was the clutch, clutch master and slave cylinders. They also had the radio changed to the Clarion bluetooth radio - still looks OEM but can connect to your phone/GPS. The radio knobs are now used as a toggle switch.

The last owner spared no expense addressing all other issues and bringing the car back to pristine condition at 55,000 miles. He spent well over $7,000 to have the car completely gone through over three weeks by an NSX specialist (HNA Automotive, TX). In addition to the XPEL PPF and tint described above, he had the transmission serviced and an oil change. The climate control panel was sent to SOS for rebuild, short shifter kit installed, A/C compressor assembly and tensioner pulley replaced. Stereo Amps were sent to SOS for rebuild. Replaced spark plugs, fender liners, installed down force air intake scoop, replaced Leaking coolant tank and radiator cap, K&N air filter, replaced alternator belt, spare tire bracket grommets, and had a HID low and High beam headlight system installed. Also replaced center arm rest NSX logo and A/C vents louvers in the passenger door.

Due to the prior owners’ diligence, I’ve only had to make a few minor repairs. I replaced the rubber gaskets in the VTEC spool valves, as well as the little blue plastic stopper on the brake pedal and the two on the clutch pedal (my wife still won’t forgive me for enlisting her help on that one :p). I also replaced the trunk struts with OEM units and flushed the brake fluid. Other than that, I’ve just been doing annual oil and filter changes.

Known Issues

The only issue I’m aware of is that the windows slow down a bit as they reach the top of their travel (everyone knows the power windows on these cars can be a bit dodgy). I preemptively bought, but never installed, the ‘Hugabuga window kit’, as well as brand new driver and passenger side window regulators from Mita Motorsports in Japan. Both will be included with the car, so the new owner doesn’t have to worry about not being able to source repair parts if the windows run into any problems down the road.

Comparable Sales

I always watch comparable sales in the usual spots…Prime, BAT, C&B, etc. I’ve also studied Eric Paterno’s ridiculously detailed and excellent NSX Valuation Document (thank you Eric!). I believe my price is in line with the current market, and a little conservative if anything when auction fees, maintenance performed, thousands of dollars in PPF, extra OEM wheels, etc. are factored into the equation. I’m fortunately not in a position in which I need to sell, so please don’t email me telling me you’d like to trade your dog and a pack of gum for my car! 😉

It isn’t a targa or automatic, and it isn’t covered with goofy, irreversible mods. It has also had a lot of maintenance money poured into it in recent years and you should be able to just drive and enjoy it without fear of big expenses. If you want a pampered, purist spec NSX coupe with some tasteful modifications, I believe mine is worthy of your consideration. This car won ‘Best NSX 25k-100k miles’ at the 2017 NSXPO, which is an incredibly picky bunch of NSX enthusiasts! My gut tells me that in ten years, whomever buys this car is going to look back and think to themself, “I can’t believe I got this car so cheap.”

The car is located about 15 minutes from Charlotte Douglas Int’l Airport, and I can help facilitate flying in and driving out. The title is in-hand and ready to transfer. If you are seriously interested in the car, please call me at seven zero four six seven four seven eight five three, and I’ll do my best to answer all your questions. I will not respond to endless, “Is the car still available?”, “What’s your best price?” questions via text, PM, etc. Again, if you are a serious buyer, please call me to discuss.

Also of note, I’ve worked in the automotive aftermarket for twenty-five years and have sold fifty or so sportscars to happy new owners. You can visit my professional profile at Essex Parts.

Thanks for looking!
