They don't make 9.5 in the 17.
If you do go to the 17x9 35 setup, you should not do 35 front. It will stick out more than the rear and it may rub depending on your camber and how low you are. However it will give more big brake kit clearance. So take that into consideration. It will work, you just have to fiddle with ride height and alignment settings, it will sit very flush. The front should then be 40 or even 45 to balance it but both front and rear will sit in just a bit. Not as much as OEM but still inset.
The size you really need to be going with is an 18 rear. Your setup should be 17x8 ET 40 front and 18x9.5 ET 30 rear. That will really balance things out and look good. Take my word for this one.
Great info! And words of advice for if you subsequently lower the car a bit via Bilsteins?
I'm wheel shopping too, and appreciate all the good advice here. However, just to be clear, will the 17x8 +40 / 18x9.5 +30 combination (along with the recommended 215/40R17 and 265/35R18 tires) work with the stock suspension height without sticking out of the wheel wells? I ask because it seems many, if not most, of the cars seem to be lowered, which I understand pulls the wheel inward. The car is plenty low enough for my liking as is, and I don't want to lower it. Thanks!
18x10 at et 35 clears no problem why are you concerned with a 9.5 et 30? 1/2" is almost 13mm, 50% of that width is roughly 5-6mm. The et difference is also 5mm why wouldn't they sit the same?
I'm not saying I'm going to impose my opinion on everyone and go 9.5. If people want 10 we get 10. But I don't see the issue with the et30 9.5" wheel. I think synth19 is using 18x10 et35 and added a 5 spacer.
Soooo....I'm still confused and don't want to screw this up. Let me ask it this way: What would be the specific offset (I assume whether it's an 18" or 19" rim diameter wouldn't matter) that would enable me to run he widest tire (I'm open to suggestions) on the rear of my '95, assuming I run a 215/40R17 or 215/35R18 front (depending on whether it ends up being a 17/18 or 18/19 combination), on stock height suspension? Thanks!
Here is a data point for you.
In preparation for the NSXPO track days, I just put on Enkei Kojin with Yokohama Advan AD08 R in the following sizes:
17x8 et40 with 215/40R17
17x9 et35 with 255/40R17
Ok so what sizes would you run in a 17/17 and you wanted to run NT01's in 235/275 do NT01's come in 17's in this size for the rear? or would you stay 18 in the rear
i currently have this similar setup below with Dunlop Z11's but want a track dedicated rim with rubber to match but maybe with the 17 rear not the 18 as i have now.
this is my current config with OZ rims
17x8 et40 / 18x9 et35
Tire size f/r: 215/40/17-265/35/18
Ok so what sizes would you run in a 17/17 and you wanted to run NT01's in 235/275 do NT01's come in 17's in this size for the rear? or would you stay 18 in the rear
would you keep the same size wheel and offsets with running the 275 NT01's or would you need to go to 10 in the rear since they dont make a 9.5 to take the larger tire? (do they make a 17x10 et35)
Scammy I am running 18x9 rear with 275 NT01 with no issues and no rubbing. For a combination wheel street and track, the 9" has some advantages. Lighter and better fit on a 255/265 tire. If it is for track only and you are running 275's get the 10.
