Stereo head unit illumination problem

The illumination in my OEM stereo head unit is randomly alternating from bright
orange to dim orange; ie, "104.1" is sometimes bright and sometimes dim. I can see the changes occuring, but there is no pattern to it. Otherwise, the stereo works just fine. A search on this topic turns up nothing.

Has anyone experienced this? If so, could you please tell me what's going on and how to fix it?

Thanks,

Philippe

Sounds like the dimmer function is acting up - normally when you turn on your parking lights, the display will dim to prevent it being too bright at night. This is a common function with all cars & even after-market heads all have this feature.
It should not go "dim" unless the lights are on - if your other displays work normally (i.e your A/C module) then there must be an issue with your head unit.

Thanks for the reply. I had a feeling there was a "ghost in the machine".
