Read an article few weeks ago about the new Corvette model (maybe in Road and Track) that mentions that it has no spare tire. Instead, some sort of high-tech tire sealant and a pump are provided. Anybody know about this sealant and its effectiveness? Sure would be nice to drive tne NSX without a spare tire and just carry a can of tire sealant in its place.

The new Corvette has the Goodyear run flat tires that have a very stiff side wall that allows them to be driven for up to 50 mi. Those cans of tire sealer that you see in the stores are terrible. They get goop all over the rim and it is a real mess to clean before mounting a new tire. The best bet is to keep the spare and have good roadside assistance.

westernB4 is refering to Car and Driver Aug. 2000. In it they describe how the Z06 Corvette went on a diet and shed 23 lbs. by getting rid of the run-flat system employed by other (lesser) Vettes. Oddly, the original idea of using run-flat technology was to drop the spare and save weight. But westernB4 is right. They are using a can of tire sealant, the type of which is undisclosed in the article, and issuing an air pump to all buyers.
