anybody care to share?

for me, as the years have gone by i've become a bit more understanding of my father's (both my biological and step-father < i really dislike that term when applied to a loving "parent-by-marriage") shortcomings and appreciative of the positive influence they had on my - and my children's - life.

i also think about our boys - they're both fathers now - and am proud they're good humans and parents. i think about how challenging is must be to be a young parent in today's world; every generation has its challenges, but it seems to me that today's young parents have even more challenges than my generation and they may well need a bit more support in coping than we did in our early years.

last, i want to share something a friend of mine wrote on her blog today. i've known this woman for 40 years - we dated in high school - and think what she says to her dad in the post probably reflect the feelings many of us have toward our fathers, too.

steveny, love the photo / idea you're making for your dad.

Sharing every minute with my Father he can spare this weekend.

After raising me alone from 2 to 15 while being self employed with never ending support in my decisions, Dad for me is a short way of saying "the best" and "the brightest star in my life."

I'm 31 now and he's turning 58 towards the end of this month. If you've got a Father or are blessed with two, have a great weekend with them and any chance you get afterwards.

It means a time to remember how 23 cameras ago I first became hooked on photography when I was given a used Kodak brownie to shoot. That enabled me to have my photos to preserve memories when memories are the only things left.

nothing quite like a dad (or a mom :), is there?

my son (by marriage) is spending his father's day with his daughter and his biological father. we would have loved to see them up here with us (they're in LA, we're in sf bay area), but encouraged him to spend time with his biological father who has spent the past few years getting treatment for his vietnam ptsd and resulting issues. it's nice to see them re-connecting and establishing a quality relationship :)

(edit: i just found this video someone mixed with a song i loved when i was a kid... it expressed parenthood fairly well: http://youtube.com/watch?v=kPa8UGmjmC4 )

happy father's day, all!
