Simple Green is very effective and environmentally friendly so it's my choice of those options. Engine Brite works great but it's awful stuff just like brake cleaner and throttle housing cleaner.

I use Simple Green. I have Purple Power but I wouldn't use it in the engine bay cause that stuff is heavy duty and I think can eat paint.

Purple Power is not for use on aluminum!!

dude....how much friggin grease do you have on your engine and why?? A few sprays of Simple Green, hose down and light wipe down and my engine bay is clean............

Underneath the NSX there is all this oil from a faulty oil pressure gauge which was replaced and now I need to clean it.

Also, I want to clean the underneath of the GTO and truck too.
 
I use oil eating microbes (packaged as Griot's Garage "Oil and Grease Cleaner") to get the road film off my painted floor. Lightly mist it on a damp floor, wait 15 minutes, and then clean up.

Also good as a pre-treater for getting oil-based stains (butter, garage stains, baby spit-up, meconium, etc) out of clothing.

Likely would work well for engine bay cleaning (if engine not too hot, get damp then lightly mist), but I have yet to use it for such.

Purple power is the best stuff, I use it on my Honda CRF450, cars, BQ grill on my old YZ250 never had a problem with paint or the aluminum frame on the CRF, but better to use caution. Works best when sprayed on a dry surface and left to soak in. Simple Green is great for every thing else like dirt, brake dust gets plastics looking like new. After a day at the MX track there the only 2 things i need to have my bike looking new.
 
If you rinse the simple green and don't let it sit, it *should* be fine (I haven't had any problems with it personally). I keep reading about simple green dulling aluminum. I'm guessing because it wasn't rinsed off properly.

Been using this stuff for years with great luck. If you have a super dirty area I just spray and leave it on for 5 minutes then wipe with a warm rinsed out Microfiber rag.

I just got off the phone with a technical staff at Simple Green and she said that the HD Pro version that is sold at HomeDepot is the same formula as the Motorsport version, but more concentrated.

Sounds like the direction I'll be heading.

Yep, just did my warm engine bay with this stuff to bare aluminum with no ill-effects.

Pics of me spraying it off after a 5 mins soak.

NSX fire right up with no hiccups. I don't cover anything, not even the alternator.

I just picked up both of these from Walmart.

Total accident find while walking down the aisle looking for household cleaners.

It's amazing how the cleaners in the automotive section costs so much more.

When I want to degrease my engine I get 6-7 cans of Carb&Choke cleaner and spray everything down it eats Oil like it was butter.

the engine shine new. then I use tire shine to get the engine to gloss like new.

been doing it for years not just on the NSX.

its pricey at 2.99 a can but how often do you need to degrease your engine ya know.
