I'm not trying to be an Apple fan boy here but the iPhone 4 is more than 1 year old. 3 months from now the IPhone 5 will be out and it will probably catch up/ surpass the G3.
I hear awesome reviews about the G3 except when it comes to battery life.
This is my first non-iphone since the first iphone came out; I've had the standard iphone, 3G, 3GS, and 4. On my iphone 4, I have gone through 3 of them, and I don't abuse phones. This last one started overheating when running more than 2 apps, and it's only about 6 months old. I received horrible customer service the last time I went to the applestore, with the rep first admitting fault, then entering into circular logic for 15 minutes once a manager came over in an effort to avoid providing me with a replacement. They demanded I prove an intermittent issue, which had a pre-existing paper trail, and then when they actually had it occur they quickly hid the fact to avoid replacing the phone, which was under warranty. It took several phone calls, and a visit to a second store in a "nicer area" to get a replacement.
I have been out of contract for nearly two years, and was holding off on the 4S since the iphone 5 has been "due any time now" for nearly the same length of time. Finally, Today, I got fed up when my iphone overheated again, so I drove to Best buy and walked out with a Galaxy S III.
I'm a bit embarrassed to say I did almost no research prior to getting home with my new phone, I had played with a friend's new GSIII a few days ago, but that was it. Now I am wondering why I didn't switch over years ago; this phone is way better, and android's current iteration is slicker than iOS, once customized. I actually managed to upgrade my firmware on the new GSIII, figure out the interface, and download about a dozen apps, meanwhile my iphone 4 is still connected to a charger in the other room doing a full reset - it's been at this for nearly two hours.
To be clear, I have now effectively bricked both my alarm clock, and car stereo, since both are dedicated iphone-only devices, this is somewhat annoying, and adds to the cost. However, the since the rumor mill states Apple is going to change their dock connector anyway, this becomes moot; I think a large number of apple users will swap over, unless apple releases something soon, and has a faultless launch.
