What would have made the new NSX sell better?

Is anyone paying attention to the new Lexus LC500/LC500h? MSRP $95k/100k

I saw a preproduction version last year of which the interior isn't as nice as what's on the market now. The NSX deserves an interior of this caliber. The LC is not a fancy MR supercar but for nearly half the price how does the NSX make any sense at $200k?

NSX MSRP is $156k, without option like crazy, can get one bare bone for a little over $160k~$170k. I expect Acura to make changes though the years like what Nissan did with GTR. More carbon in interior likely will be available.

The LC500 is not as good looking, it will get old very quick, doesn't have performance, doesn't have good power to weight ratio, doesn't have the brand name, doesn't offer anything exceptional besides sound, luxury, and comfortable. I personally would rather have Granturismo MC, RCF, M4, C63S, RS5, RS7, M6, etc over LC500 if I need to have a GT car.

I had Granturismo MC the most hardcore version available in US that weighted 4150lbs, amazing sound, comfort, but super slow. My business partner was first in line for LC500 allocation in SoCal, I talked him into getting Huracan instead. To this day he still tell me "thank you Jason for saving me $120k". He did return the favor by talking me into getting NSX after he got his. To this day, I still appreciate the favor he did for me. It is the best all around sports car I ever owned. I just drive it everyday and everywhere, turn heads just like other hyper car, as comfortable as Lexus, yet low key at the same time. Ultimately, I think it will save me a lot of money of not craving for other cars besides Performante and until R36GTR and NSXR. All 3 of which I will get.

Supposedly Honda Japan already sold out of 2 year of allocation for NSX in Japan. Their goal may not be pushing numbers or generate profit from it. Otherwise, they could had easily made it 650~700hp. That would had guarantee sell. In sports car game, no rocket science, either have a brand name or have huge hp number, performance, and it will sell. It look like Honda is back finally. Civic Type R, NSX, now it finally did the brand's heritage justice and bring back excitement back to the brand. Look at the amount of current gen Civic, and Honda/Acura products on the road today. Their sales and profit overall is got to be through the roof.

I would say NSX is equally as comfortable as LC in quiet or sport mode. Can't even feel the weight, Even in track mode it absorb bumps a lot better than my McLaren in normal mode.

I'm not a material whore at all, but the nice, small touches would be great future improvements.

I notice the details. If no one told me that the paddles were terrible, I would not have noticed them. On further inspection, they are fine. No issue. None.

Other than not being a cool, special touch, do you think they are objectionable?

Come to think of it, shifter paddles made of the same material as the early Monel keys would have been an interesting touch. :)

For example, it would have been nice if they made the clicking sensation a bit more rich feeling. It reminded me of a cheap $10 mouse clicker vs. say, an Apple Macbook clicker. I'd ignore it by itself but the theme is more pervasive than I would like.

I can respect that for many folks this is a non-issue.

we are getting into the princess and pea analogy.........where is gliebig...

You know, that brings to mind how Apple have gotten really good with haptic feedback on components that don't actually move, like the iPhone 7 home button and screen, and the MacBook trackpad. If somebody could make car controls (such as paddle shifters and radio/HVAC controls) I think it would provide a very high-quality feel to their operation...

That's not a pea keeping you up, it's a hemorrhoid.

..........haha.its not so much the burning.....but the itch....

The best automotive interiors in this world are made by Audi and Mercedes. They truly understand luxury. BMW is one step behind IMO.

If you don't count Rolls Royce or the fancy upscale brands, I think Audi and Mercedes are the class leaders.

Lamborghini interiors have drastically improved with the merger with VW/Audi. The Huracan and big brother Aventador reminds you of a jet fighter pilot, everything is perfect in that car for short range comfort. I only say this because for longer road trips greater than a few hours, they are NOT comfortable.

McLaren seats are the best in the business. Acura should have paid attention to what McLaren was doing for seats. Seats are one of the most expensive items in the car's design and truly make/break the car (besides maybe the motor design)

Its listed at 4,280 lb on the Lexus website.

MT says... A few hundred pound discrepancy? it's not material
"[FONT=&quot]So why are these cars not as quick as we’d hoped? For one thing: the ground beneath them. The LC 500’s 4,370-pound and LC 500h’s 4,471-pound curb weights (as-tested) certainly play a part."

When it comes to weight I believe the one MT tested had a few loaded options added on.

.....hmmm like extra bacon bits and sour cream?

It's the hideous hour glass grill that makes the beast weak.😎

Having spent a decent amount of time in the car, here are my thoughts.

1. Lower price point. I feel like 125 entry would have been more attractive.
2. Louder exhaust note. It doesn't sound good outside the car. Inside does sound pretty great in sport plus.
3. More power. Launch mode is impressive, but I think they should have done 550 out of the motor. Maybe 625 combined.
4. This wouldn't help it sell, but it's ridiculous how little storage there is in the car.

One thing I think that hurt the nsx is that all the mags said 0-60 under 3 and nobody actually got under 3.1. It's two tenths, but something about under 3 makes it sound better.

so do we come full circle and admit that people like to pay up for exotic cars that punish you abit...

90 lbs differences for the LC500, 4,280 (Lexus USA) 4,370 vs 4,370 (MT). The hybrid shows up as 36 lbs off, 4,435 (Lexus USA) vs 4,471 (MT). Not sure what else is added on, but MT test car had a price of $105,115 vs $92,995 for the base model.

I agree on point #1 . Lower price point.... OR.. BLOW EVERYTHING OUT OF THE WATER numbers to justify 200k.

(Making a note): People want all attributes better, but for less money. Got it. So the main thing is price/value (unless its a Corvette), but all the cars that people prefer over the NSX are the same price or higher. Check.

Pretty straight forward.

Sounds reasonable;)
