Running my 1st TT event tomorrow @CMP

slightly early turn in + a tad too much curb + teensy bit slow applying opposite lock. no big deal, everyone spins there eventually if they're pushing it. to wit: https://vimeo.com/16028871 (go to 3:15) for more fun at cmp, try this sometime: https://vimeo.com/11390110

Low grip tires... a better way to improve?

at a hpde a couple of years ago i corded two toyo 888 on my spec e30 so i borrowed a couple of bfg r1 from a friend. he said they were old and heat cycled out so i put them on the front thinking that understeer was safer than oversteer. but they still had noticeably more grip than the 888s and...

if you like crazy passing... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yctEEDWXXmU this past weekend my student at vir insisted that i drive his race-prepared 1972 911 w/ a 3.2L motor, upgraded brakes, and hoosiers. having never driven a 911 of any vintage before i was a bit nervous but wow, what a car...

    Cmp 2/11 2/12

it's a very good track, one time last year our sunday qualifying session was cancelled due to the previous groups crashing and/or oiling down the track. so one of the rich guys rented the entire track for 20 min and we used that as our qualifier :)

    Any iRacers in here?

a table or desk is totally fine to get started, you can always add the cockpit later. you'll want a sturdy chair too, and height adjustability of both the chair and table is a big help.

    Any iRacers in here?

i have the fanatec gt2 wheel, it's fairly comparable to the g27. the h-pattern shifter sucks, logitech's is better. however the fanatec clubsport pedals are terrific and are well worth the money. you can mix and match them, pedals and wheel/shifter are generally treated as separate input devices.

    NASA events

figure out what class your car would be in, then compare those lap times to yours. pretty easy to see how competitive you'd be.

    corner balancing

fuel tank is in the middle of the car so it doesn't really matter much. more important to have the driver (or equal ballast) in the driver seat.

    corner balancing

not entirely true, some cars (like my spec e30 which does not allow coilovers) can use rubber spring pads to shim a corner in order to achieve ideal cross weights. and it's not just for track cars - if you're running particularly stiff springs even a small out of adjustment can lead to pretty...

Help With Tying Down my Car

i recall the factory tie down points on my car being pretty robust, never had any problems hauling it on my 18' open trailer using standard 2" straps. but the front tow hook is NOT a tie down point, and you absolutely have to ditch those mickey mouse straps in your pics for real ratchet straps...

R compound tires on OEM wheels

if he's running with thscc he will have an instructor, and installing harnesses and/or race seats in a street car is both expensive and non-trivial. however i will say this - if you show up with a nsx on r-comps and still drive slow you're opening the door to large amounts of taunting :)

R compound tires on OEM wheels

no one "needs" r-comps (unless mandated by race rules), nor did the OP ever suggest it. but if you're going to get a second set of track wheels and you live in a hot climate where street tires can get overheated and greasy then there's absolutely nothing wrong with running them, beginner or...
