Wouldn't suggest calling your wife stupid in public over a decision to have a home before a sports car.
If I did that to my wife she would have told me to stop whining, get off my behind, and go earn enough money to buy a house and if I want to a toy as well.

i would listen to these guys. the toy is nothing compared to the home on the grand scheme of things... unless you're in those special businesses/situation where the toy generates real income.

the gtr doesn't come with ceramic brakes, so no thats for steel brakes.

My GTR's brake job cost me $200 labour and $600 parts.

Once the warranty is expired, most owners forgo the OEM stuff anyways :)

I find the R35GTR pretty damn reliable and affordable actually (knock on wood). Keep the car under 650hp and you're golden.
 
I find my PCar extremely reliable too. I thought that my NSX was reliable but this is even more so. I think that swbatte is really happy with the reliability of his GT3 too.

I'm genuinely curious to know what the differences between the Porsche and the NSX you experienced. I seem to recall that you went through tires like bubble gum, but did you have any other issues during your ownership? I ask this because other than the major service, I think our car is pretty rock solid after three years of ownership.
 
I had two wheel bearings replaced on warranty and the secondary air injector also don't on warranty. Yes, tires were an issue but I don't consider that a reliability issue.

My nsx was reliable. Only thing I've had an issue with in the pcar is ignition, which I changed myself for $25. Although I think I have a failing MAF right now.

Both cars reliable!

I have to agree with Bram here too. Everytime I talk pcar ownership my mechanic wants to slap me upside the head for such crazy talk. Mention Range Rover and I get escorted out the door lol.

In my car ownership experience (Honda, Toyota, BMW, Nissan, Lotus, RHD, LHD, FF, FR, AWD) I have to say nothing beats Honda for sheer fun and reliability with Nissan a close second. Cost of ownership so far my 2011 GTR has been bulletproof and inexpensive to own and run. First mod was the Cobb AP to update the tranny software to the latest algorithms for smoothness and reliability. Well worth the $1000.

Given where Rob is working now he has firsthand experience and the statistical sample he is dealing with probably makes his assessment much more accurate than any individual owner or friend of owner's assessment. Having said this, back in the day I did manage to fail grade 13 calculus and although I passed statistics I confess that I am weak when it comes to math.

FWIW, I believe that the P-cars have become more reliable in recent years but I only have a couple of acquaintances with 997.2s. Their ownership experience has been a happy one. I think that the issue as between NSX reliability and P-car reliability is that our NSXs are far simpler machines with less technology and things to go wrong. Then there is the cost of parts/labor which I have to believe is less for the Honda than the Porsche. My experience with a /94 NSX that I have owned last 5.5 years has been a happy one with nothing of any significance having gone wrong other than the typical things that go on a 15-20 year old NSX (driveshaft boots, ignition switch, hatch struts, clutch master/slave and brake master) -- all minor stuff and in fact more akin to maintenance given the age of the car (despite the fact that it only has 48,000 miles).

Not that I have any imminent plans to sell the NSX and move into a Cayman or 911, but having had the use of a 997.2 for a week (it was an S), it truly is a wonderful machine. Then again, it should be for the price and the fact that it is a generation or two newer than the NSX. Hopefully there won't be any more IMS/RMS type issues with the new P-cars but that episode is something that is in the back of my mind when I start to think about the possibility of moving over to Porsche ownership. And then there is Rob's opinion. So, for the time being, I'll stick with my general approach of "when in doubt, do nothing". LOL.

I need coilovers, any preferences between jrz's or kw's. The car is sitting on h&r springs, and i can't stand cheap mod's, that are not done right.

I hear ya on the cheap mods. The NSX deserves better. If you're primarily doing street driving, the KWs are the ones to go with. Any other plans?

As for shop, I am in Ottawa so no idea. I expect the GTA crowd to chime in soon. Car looks sweet. You seem like a long term owner to be, which is what that car deserves. Congrats again. I'll be rejoining the NSX arena in a few more weeks.

LOL. Again, greatest of respect from yours truly to the P-cars and their owners. We will have our opportunity soon enough at EST-FEST to discuss this with the man himself. I suspect I know what he is going to say. Having said this, I'd still like either a 911S or Cayman S in my garage to keep my NSX company -- I just want someone else to buy me the Porsche and to take care of the expenses once off warranty!
