Been dreaming of an NSX...

Hi Andrew, You don't have to answer me of course, but I was just wondering why your selling it? You only just bought it!
The Lotus Esprit SE has been a car I have wanted to own for a long, long time. I now have an opportunity to buy one so I am afraid the NSX must go.

If you really want one by all means get one but personaly i think you are down grading.
They have a few issus like,
Vibrations at high rev's due to a flat plained crank
The gearbox is inferior to the nsx
Changing up gears above 5000 rpm is not a pleasant experience.
Has poor vision out the rear cockpit.
also has no taco, oil press gauge or clock.
The nsx is by far a greater engineered car than the lotus espirit se.
the only thing the lotus has in it's favor is it's brembo brakes and a little more hp.
Have you driven one before?

You could always use the surplus money when you downgrade from the NSX to the Lotus to enter a drug rehabilitation program!!! I'm not sure what you're thinking, but I've no doubt you have your reasons - wtf are they???

I have owned an Esprit before. I don't want to start a raging debate over this. Buying a car can be an emotional decision. Yes, the NSX is a greater engineered car. Having now owned one it lacks a little soul. It has a taco, oil gauge and a clock. Gearbox is not as good I agree. Engine not as high revving but has better low down torque. It is faster though. Visibility is over-rated. The driving position in the Esprit feels like you are in a sports car. Sitting in the NSX I don't feel much at all. Strange though it may sound.

Settle down. People don't always buy cars from an analytical approach. The Esprit SE is a car I have dreamed of owning. The NSX was not.

Don't worry, I was only half serious. I certainly respect the fact that you're following your dreams, that's why I bought the NSX. That being said, I love the look of the Lotus Esprit, but unless the car you're buying is mechanically spot on, it won't take too long for your dreams to turn into nightmares!!!

I hope it all works out for you.
If i see you round melbourne i will be sure to blow your doors off and leave you in my wake. lol:smile:

Just my two cents worth, I think we all have different priorities/tastes when it comes to our pasion, cars and this is great or life would be borring.
Having said that, I have owned 6 Lotuses, including an Esprit, driven dozens and I am a fan but actually consider that apart from looks (better than an NSX in my opinion) the Esprit is one of Lotuses worst models. (2nd model Elite/Eclat excluded!).
Early Lotuse's ie Ford based twincams, or Renault powered cars were great driving cars, fragile, flawed but in my opinion worth the drama.
The main reason for this was that they were extreemly light and hence
very responsive cars. Later Lotus engined cars put on too much weight until the Elise regained focus. I owned two Europa's but always lusted after an Esprit but when I finally brought one I was very disapointed.
The forward veiw is obstructed by the pillers, the soundtrack dull, the gearshift almost as bad as the Europa's (very bad), but the most disapointing aspect was the lack of steering feel. (compared to a Europa's).
The cockpit of a Europa was also far better in my opinion.
Reliability was actualy worse, particularly in relation to the engine.
To me only thing that any model Esprit does better than an NSX is in the looks department and depending on which model slightly better acceleration. I'm sorry nsxey but I think your mad! but I hope you love your Esprit because after all it's all about what you want!

Yeah, each to their own. U can't knock someone for personal tastes and preferences. There's a buyer for every car, else there would t be a market or demand for them.

Anyway, I personally think nothing in the NSX's era comes close to its looks, engineering and simple awesomeness, hehe. I won't even compare to anything else cos that's opening a can of worms... which can be saved for another thread any rainy day.

Okay that's understandable... I fell in love with the Espirit when I was a boy. My Dad took our family to the drive-in in 1977 to watch the latest James Bond movie, The Spy Who Loved Me

That was the first time to the movies for me and WOW that car!!! Left an impression on me like you wouldn't believe! I was 7 years old!

Funny thing for me is that I never lusted after the NSX like I did the Espirit or 308 or Countach! I only fell in love with the NSX after I saw and drove my first one... Same for the Porsche 911, I thought they looked like a VW Beetle until I saw and drove a '81 911sc. Only then did I understand them and I fell in love with the 1980's wide bumper series with the black Fuchs wheels. Then drove the 996, the first of the water cooled 911's and my love of the 911 died again... So did my love for the 308 when I drove my first one! I hope when I drive my first Espirit it's impression lives up to my fantasy...

So for me, I'm keeping my NSX's. But I still keep looking through the classifieds at the Espirit and 80's 911's! A 3.3 930 in white or red will be in my stable one day as I hope will a white Espirit Turbo...

Thanks for sharing your experiences with us here!

What a day! I had the Esprit SE inspected by a Lotus specialist and his boss showed me his Esprit S4s and 348 Ferrari. The S4s is a state and national concourse winner - immaculate condition. Max boost 1.2 bar - OMG it was fast. GPS verified 0-100 in 4s and top speed 307 kph. So that was amazing to drive - the acceleration! - gee those F1 guys must have strong neck muscles. Then the 348 - never driven a dancing donkey (only kidding) before - oh, the sound! The gated gearshift required a strong hand. What an experience. A shame he did not have his Diablo available. He had not driven an NSX before and he was impressed - he was genuinely surprised I think. That SE is not for me - might consider an S4 now.

what the heck just that add is off putting enough

its auto and has "NOZ" ? nos? maybe

rebuild engine and g-box hmmm not sure if id trust it..maybe 30k if it didn't have any evidence of damage

Seen the Red turbo on Carsales $40000 ? What wrong with it , besides the awful wheels
No idea.... but with only 60k on the clock, i'd expect the interior and steering wheel to not look that shabby and faded. Turbo, auto, recon'd everything, NOS and never been used? Nothing adds up.

Ok, i know it's the Christmas/NY period... but there is now only 1 NSX for sale on carsales... this is kinda depressing. At this rate, i think i'll hang on to my EK9 and buy sometime after my honeymoon in May...

Btw, anyone know anything about the current red 91 Auto in WA for sale? It's been listed for AGES...
