Michigan check-in & spotting by blodi pt.2

Had an absolute blast today! Good to see all of you. The drive was great getting to be behind the Countach most of the time. But Brian and Judi, thanks so much for letting me take the helm of the beast. What an experience.
Cody, if you are reading this, you built one hell of a machine. Wow.
And then getting to drive the Super 7 after that was such a unique and fun driving experience. Shifting with the left hand certainly takes some getting used it. Sensory overload!
Still digesting it all! A much needed very fun day. What a way to end the season!
Anyways, on the goods...
Vid of me getting to hit the boost pipe here....(lots of giggling.) Videos just don't do the experience justice.

No problem Ryan, we're glad you guys had fun (by the giggling in that video, there is little doubt ;^)
Cody, did the package I sent arrive OK?

That is first hand evidence of me becoming addicted very quickly to the boost crack pipe....you can even hear me say "I gotta hit it again!" and "I got to get me one of these!" If I end up keeping my car I know I need FI. I wanted it before...now I NEED it.
I also just resolved my brake light issue I noticed that day. I had a small ding removed in my rear drivers side fender a few weeks ago...it was really minor, but always bugged me. The guy tried to go through the trunk first only to realize he couldn't get to it from there and in the process managed to unhook a single wire connection that runs the lower brake lights....phew! Also on my way home that day my abs warning light came on, but I just did the dyi service of jumping the solenoids and that's all good now too! Yay!
Also wanted to point out I posted some of my photochopped pics of the drive last week on Fchat....
http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=139117186&postcount=52

I wish that I could drive around the country and let people actually DRIVE a turbo NSX that's been properly setup. Lets just say that I think there would be an addicition epidemic sweeping the nation!

Was that Gallardo an Underground Racing, Heffners, or another creation? I would LOVE to get my hands on some italians

It was some other type of kit on the gallardo, I don't remember the name now...the owner said it was currently on "low boost" which is 10psi...on stock internals and he has run it at 16psi...lambo builds a strong NA motor!

blodi - glad you solved your brake light problem.

On last Sunday's breakfast and drive . . . I can't describe how incredible it was to hit I-96 westbound from Novi Road, T-roof off with windows down, behind the tricked orange Lambo and exCfive's Porsche Turbo as they both hit boost - from 65 mph to ????? north of 100. An aural treat! They made for a mighty fine "front door" on the drive.

Forecast for this weekend - we may be blessed again. I know some of you have them put away already and that's O K. Saturday (53 and sunny) busy for me, but Sunday (50 and sunny) is wide open.
Anyone for Sunday?

P S nicholas421 where are you? MIA. (?)

We have 2 of the 3 toys put away as of yesterday, but we're hoping for a few more miles in the purple boostmonster if mother nature will oblige

Yes Nick, time for an update!

Brian

Any specific plans for tomorrow yet?
How about we meet at Neal & Cindy's place on Sunday @ 11:30am, and we'll go from there

Who else is in?

We still can't believe that taking the silencer out of the exhaust made so much of a difference.....unbelievable. Now Brian is conflicted whether to put it back in or not.........

Although Sunday started out cool (and rather foggy), by noon the roads were basically dry and while the skies were still overcast quite acceptable for a proper drive.
Cody, we tried running without the silencer in place (I had it along just in case ;^) and Holy Mother of Blessed Acceleration maybe it was just the additional soundtrack but the car sure seemed to spool quicker and hit harder without it.
Wheelspin in 2nd gear was simply a given...........deal with it
Thanks to Neal for leading our last outing of the 2009 driving season, very well done my good man!

Brian

Happy New Year from the Bennett household as well!

Judi, Brian, Porsche and Shelby (our two cats):smile:

Hello All:

I'm new to NSX Prime and thus I hope I am posting correctly -- if not, I apologize. I bought a totally stock 1994 red 5 speed that was advertised on NSX Prime this past Oct/Nov from a gentleman in Phoenix. I flew to Phoenix middle of November and drove it home to Farmington Hills. It was everything that the owner represented it to be -- absolutely mint example with only 18,500 miles. Mike Michalik (some of you may know him -- lead tech at Suburban Acura) was instrumental in assisting me in acquiring the NSX. I can not say enough good things about Mike -- I would not have felt comfortable making this purchase without his able assistance. Mike mentioned to me that there are a few NSX owners in the greater Detroit area so I thought I would introduce myself and hopefully meet some of you in the spring, if not before. Suffice it to say, the NSX is an absolutely amazing piece of machinery and I'm looking forward to owning mine for a very long time. Honda is just the greatest -- not sure that one could drive a 15 year old European exotic (even if it only had 18,500 miles on the clock) from Phoenix to Detroit in comfort and without the car missing a beat as we did in the NSX! To boot, we averaged over 25 mpg for the entire trip (with a couple of tanks north of 30 mpg thanks to a monster tailwind) and didn't use a drop of oil. Did I mention that I really love this car? Only issue on the trip home was the purchase of a set of rear tires outside of St. Louis resulting from a slight misjudgment on my part as I thought I had enough tread to make it back home -- I didn't! I look forward to meeting some of my fellow Greater Detroit Area NSX owners/enthusiasts in the near future! Best regards and best wishes for a happy, healthy prosperous 2010.

Jeff

Hey Jeff, Welcome to Prime! Happy New Year! There are a few of us here in the metro Detroit area with cars, and we are all anxiously waiting for warmer weather to get them back out. My husband Brian and I purchased a totally stock 1992 Formula Red NSX in June of 2008 from a gentleman in South Carolina named Charlie. He had taken extremely good care of the car, and we flew down and drove it back, via the Tail of the Dragon. What fun! Late last year we purchased the LoveFab turbo 1992 NSX and look forward to more fun days with that. I hope you get as much enjoyment out of your NSX as we have, they are truly amazing. Like you, we plan on keeping our cars for a very long time (probably forever):smile:

Happy New Years to everyone! Here's very much looking forward to 2010 and leaving this stinkin' year behind!

 Second!

Jeff, Welcome and Happy New Year! Great to have you into Prime Forums, plus another fine example of machinery present in these parts.
I’ll bet you have a few roadie stories about you and Mr. Mike winging to AZ and driving the Tochigi Prize home to ‘Lil Ole Michigan.”
Right time for intro, but maybe a right place for all Primer's enjoyment would be to post up intro and photos here:

OR, now for you, here!

CAN'T wait to see your NSX!

Glad to hear it Jeff and welcome, we are in Farmington Hills as well so I'm sure our paths will cross from time to time when the warm weather hits.

Jeff-

Welcome to our little fraternity. It is too bad you have to wait a few more months to get your new toy on the road. It sounds great - I can't believe how few miles on a 94 in an all-year driving location. There are a bunch of guys here in greater Detroit and we look forward to meeting you. Stay warm and let's hope April 1 arrives quickly.

Al

Hello Judi, alum04org, ekin 95 and Al:

Thanks for the warm welcome! I'll try and get some pics up at some point in time (sorry, I am a bit of a dinosaur when it comes to internet technology) and a summary of the entertaining bits regarding our trip back to MI from AZ. In the meantime I must confess that since yesterday was dry and there was no snow on my street, I did give the NSX some exercise. I decided to store it in my garage this winter and it gets fired up every 4 days or so. The car is in great shape and I undertook some pretty extensive research before heading to AZ for a 3+ hour PPI conducted at Mark Basch's facility. I was fully prepared to catch a flight back home if the car didn't check out. I had Mark Basch do the timing belt/water pump service before we left Phoenix since this had never been done and we didn't want to take any chances on the way home (retrospectively, I wish I had simply shipped the car home and had that job done here -- more on that topic later). I spent a lot of time with the car while the TB/WP job was being done and as things came apart it was even more apparent that this is a bit of a "time capsule" car and that the claimed mileage is authentic. Over the winter I have a number of maintenance items to attend to -- trunk struts, engine compartment struts, change gearbox oil, new spark plugs, brake service, fuel filter, air filter, inoperative cigarette lighter, renew brake/clutch/ABS fluid and a bit of squeak/rattle elimination in the dashboard area. I expected and budgeted for all of this as well as a set of new tires and a wheel alignment (I have the standard 16/17 inch /94 wheels and am going to bite the bullet on front and rear OEM Bridgestones). In my view the above items amount to nothing more than routine maintenance. The former owner (Don Gehr -- a real gentleman of the highest integrity) changed the gearbox oil and brake fluid some 7,000-8,000 miles ago but given that the car wasn't used much, this dates back to the fall of 2004. It seems to me that it is appropriate (and cheap insurance) to attend to those items again now. As for Don, all of his representations about the car were bang on and he even gave me the NSX book that he told me came with the car when delivered new -- I didn't know anything about the book and need to stop looking at it for fear of wearing it out! All in all, so far its been a fun and pleasant experience with the car and I expect that its going to get even better come spring/summer. I look forward to meeting you all in the spring unless anyone is interested in getting together for a coffee/dinner (?) before then.

Best regards,
Jeff

Welcome Jeff! Sounds like you got a really nice NSX. Always happy to see another Formula Red join our group here. I think we are finally caught up now the the LBBP crew.
I am looking forward to spring already. Mine is sitting up on stands under the cover. :frown: But I guess that makes the time we get to drive them around here that much more enjoyable!
