Any way to create a dashboard where the user can input, the year, color, mileage, etc. and then it spits out an estimated "current value"?

great job with the listing, looks really sharp. for the most part NSX's have been doing really well on BaT lately..... some very strong sales.

interesting that BaT has 4 separate really nice low mileage NSX's running at the same time right now..... you gotta think they all could be to some degree competing for the same buyer(s)?

- Approx 38,000 miles as the second owner since 2003 (then approx 2,800 miles)
- Red/tan color combo
- Full service records and service up-to-date
- Comptech supercharger. header, CAT and exhaust (done approx 22,000 miles)
- All services and the mod done by a well known NSX specialist in the northeast
- No accidents; paint repairs etc.
- Apart from mentioned mod everything is original

Based on my observation, BaT is a great platform if you have a low mileage example and if you are willing to take the time to address a lot of questions/requests publicly. Otherwise, certain sellers find it to be exhausting. If for whatever reason, potential buyers get spooked by unreasonable comments made, I have seen several negative outcomes as well. It feels like BaT attracts a mix of real collectors who will pay for the right car or bargain hunters who want to take advantage of the bidding tactics.

For example, a friend of mine was selling his high mileage NSX (100K+ miles) and he is very private. Via BaT, he would have sold it for ~$40K-$45K _ significant time invested. However, he ended up selling it for $50K within a week via Craigslist & Facebook Marketplace.

I think your car is special (2001, low miles, color combo, etc.) that BaT could bring top value if you are willing to spend the time answering/addressing public comments. I personally believe that NSXPRIME Marketplace is a great place to sell as well.

I just sold my 2000 CTSC with 46k on the clock for 110k and yours should go for more than that. I also spoke in detail with the guy who sold his 2001 CTSC with ~45 on the clock for 115k, as I decided to hire him to sell mine (which was a waste of money at the end of the day). I have, of course, spoken with multiple potential buyers about the car, including the top two bidders.

It's a lot of work preparing a BaT listing, but BaT is a strong platform. I am quite skeptical of anyone selling a car quickly that thinks it wouldn't have performed better on BaT, as the reality of it is BaT is a big reason NSX prices are being driven up. He is right in that a more special NSX does better there and the lower tier ones don't perform as well- but anything selling quickly on the private market is likely underpriced unless you get very very lucky.

He is also correct in that the amount of work it takes is very significant. You have to spend a considerable amount of time preparing the car, documenting everything, and being ready for any questions that come up. That said, the listings are generally not that demanding once the car is online and you've prepared your ad properly. I went ahead and took all necessary photos, video, and got a PPI from a reputable shop.

I would much rather sell a car on BaT than show the car to 5 different potential buyers, as the latter is more time consuming once the car is listed. I wanted to do as much as possible myself as I am generally irritated when I hire someone and they do things worse than I could. It is advisable to hire a photographer (or even use the option to hire one for you, depending on where you are located). Feel free to PM if you want to talk about it more.

I fully understand and appreciate the need to comprehensively document the car and to be responsive to questions from potential buyers as I believe that it is important and should be expected from a seller.

I've been chasing a couple of the high-end cars on BaT recently, so I did a chart for 2020 NSX sales on BaT, just updated it.

It does not include the 5%/$5K max BaT fee. I colored the prices green for sales under $60K, light green for sales in 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s, and yellow for $90K and above.

Thought this might be of interest to some folks here.

I see at least 1 car on your sheet that doesn't exist, and I expect all the BaT sales are integrated into the existing sheet already, no?

I'm new here, no NSX yet, bid on two recent BaT cars but other bidders wanted them more than I did, so still looking.
 
Mine was the only '00 Spa to sell within the last year. You have one listed at 120k. Looks like you accidentally labeled the 2002 a 2000. Doesn't exist.

Oh, looks like I have that one in twice, once as a 2002, once as a 2000. Thanks. Corrected chart attached- I also added today's red '92 sale.

96' Sold for $58.5K

I figured I'd chime in and give another strong figure for the Red 96' models. I just sold my 96' with 128xxx miles for $58,500.

I'd also like to add that with Autotrader, although I had plenty of emails asking for information and a few lowball offers, I only met up with one person, one test driving session, and that person ended up buying. I figured with the high miles it would take 2+ years to find the right buyer, but it ended up only taking short of one year. Which I didn't mind because I enjoyed the car the whole time.

State of the Market 2020

It is now that time of the year to reflect on the NSX market of the departing tumultuous 2020. Despite a year rife with uncertainty, in general, NSX values have increased from 2019 to 2020.

IN GENERAL:


  • A total of 370 unique NSXs (by VIN) entered the database this year, a 21% decrease.
    • 63 NSX sale prices recorded (~24% decrease)
    • 23 NSXs did not meet reserve (~60% decrease)
    • 73% of NSXs sold (~24% increase)
    • 99 NSXs listed by dealers (~42% decrease)
    • 128 NSXs listed by private sellers (~51% decrease)
  • The average of all NSX sale prices increased from $62,074 to $72,379.
  • The average of all NSX list prices increased from $61,047 to $69,029.
  • No significant COVID-19 related correlations (i.e. sudden drops in value) were observed. In general, the sale strength of each type of NSX increased throughout 2020. In other words, the market got "hotter" throughout the year.
NA1 COUPE MANUAL:


  • 2020 values increased 8% on average across the mileage range.
  • 2020 listing prices increased 8% on average across the mileage range.
  • A notable sale at $97,125 occurred for a 27k mile example on Bring a Trailer in Nov 2020, the strongest NA1 Coupe manual sale price of 2020.
NA1 TARGA MANUAL:


  • 2020 values increased 12% on average across the mileage range.
  • 2020 listing prices increased 8% on average across the mileage range.
NA2 TARGA (POP-UPS) MANUAL:


  • 2020 values increased 18% on average vs the 2018-2019 period across the mileage range (limited data).
  • 2020 listing prices increased 8% on average across the mileage range.
  • A notable sale at $140,000 occurred for a 19k mile example on Bring a Trailer in October 2020, the highest recorded NA2 Targa (popups) manual sale price to date. The NA2 Targa (pop-ups) had the largest rise in value this year and low-mileage examples now trade at similar sale prices to NA2 Targa (facelift).
NA2 TARGA (FACELIFT) MANUAL:

I reviewed the BAT results and did not find the GPW 27k mile example. There is a Black 27k mile car that sold in November..
 
Here is a great website that lists the sales of most cars sold at auction and cars listed at upcoming auctions. It also charts the selling price trend. Take a peek, my friend knows the person who developed it.

Thanks Doc! I appreciate your support and willingness to help this project go further. I'll preface by saying that I do receive a handful of private sale submissions per month and I am thankful to all who contribute. My thinking is focused on making it easier for those who are interested in voluntarily contributing. I hesitate to solicit as it is against my nature. Of course, all my voluntary submissions are kept private.

I've been pondering this over the past month; to what extent can structural barriers toward submitting data be overcome? I can think of 2 main general barriers, not specific to Prime:
  1. Difficult, non-standardized methods of submitting sale data. Those who are willing to provide data currently private message me here or on Facebook. Many may not be aware of this or wouldn't necessarily think to contact me this way.
  2. Lack of clarity of specific information required (example, mileage, modifications, etc). This may create another barrier, as the information I require is not known or standardized, so any potential voluntary contributor may not be aware of what they should provide.

To help address both of these items, I've come up with a pilot Google Form that I will debut here (you see it here first, and who said online forums were dying? :smile:). I tried a similar form in my Snap Ring Data thread to good success:

I recently passed 5000 NSX data points in the Valuation Document! Thank you to all for contributing.

I continue to evaluate new and better ways to present insights. Now is as good a time as any for a "change-log" since I've last checked in:
  • Connected form (above post) to facilitate data submissions
  • Added additional regression to price model to improve model response to short term value changes
  • Added US map to Valuation Document showing top locations by state, started tracking location effect
  • Maintenance effect now shown in Valuation Document
  • Changed price model calculation to use a dynamic rolling start date of one year ago today, rather than a fixed start date of January 1st
  • Added additional waterfall-style charts to the Appreciation section of the Valuation Document to better display value changes for 25th, 50th, and 75th mileage percentiles for each NSX type
  • Error bars calculated specific to each NSX type price, rather than a common error percentage
