The APR GTC-300 wing is really growing on me, think it's a keeper!

Its looks good, better on the green car. I think its the LM's that are throwing it off. White volk TE's would probably better.

stick with the 'R' wing it does look better on your car because of how your car is setup, it is not a track car but a show car it's so clean.
I want to go with the APR for track events but need more front DF first, but will always go back to the 'R' wing for the road partly because we have to have a high brake light to be legal.

Reading about the work done by Honda on the last NSX-R, Honda engineers spent a great deal of energy working to achieve an increase in downforce but balanced front to rear.
The type-R hood opening, radiator ducting, underbody cover, and reduced front condenser openings reduced the coefficient of lift by .1 and the rear wing reduced the coefficient by .85.
This resulted in an increase in downforce of 36 kg on the front tires and 25 kg on the rear measured at 110 mph.
The coefficient of drag remained the same as a stock NA1 NSX which is quite an achievement.

it seems that adding a large rear wing to the NSX without corresponding modifications to the front may result in an undoing of the balance built into the NSX by those same Honda engineers.
As scammy mentions he wants to add more rear wing but needs to increase front downforce to maintain the balance of the car.

It appears that on most large rear wings there are adjustments to change the airfoil effect to increase or decrease downforce.
With a change in airfoil shape also comes an increase or decrease in drag.
It's possible that a large rear wing could be adding so much drag that it makes an NSX slower.
I suspect in racing venues a lot of time is spent testing trade-offs between downforce and drag.

On modern street machines I note almost none of the current leading cars employ large wings and they have significantly better hp to weight ratios than our NSX's..
I end up concluding Ferrari, Porsche etc. don't need wings on their street cars and Honda on the type-R spent time achieving balanced front and rear without using a large rear wing.

Perhaps the addition of the APR wing goes against what Honda engineers work to attain in the type-R.
The APR undoubtedly does something to the NSX but does it unbalance the car, or add drag, or only come into play at over 100 mph?

If that's the case the type-R wing would seem the better performance choice and so would have my vote.

However if it's a racy look that you're after then the performance/balance aspect of the wing doesn't come into play.

terrible choice, doesn't flow with the rest of the car at all. if the car was done with a wild sense then it's ok, but right now it's completely out of place. rick you have always had good taste in mods, but this one falls off the cliff badly.

and the whole talk on bigger wing for being functional. yeah probably useful when you are on a track going at very high speed, but on most road cars? give me a break, it's just all cosmetic. i can't really see many people have the ability and chances to really push their cars close enough to the limit to actually take advantage of the extra down force by bigger wings.

r wing is more mature, clean, refined, the big wing is opposite,,lets say you are picking up a classy,um,32 year old bombshell for a date,id use the r-wing or oem,,now lets go pick up some college girls for a good ol time,,,put the big wing on!!!!!!

Car is to clean and not aggressive looking for that large wing.

Definitely looks like an afterthought.

I thought the car belonged to your brother....no?

thanks guys, the car is scheduled for a professional 3-wall cyclorama studio to be shot under a 30’x10’ light bank. I'm pretty excited as the car has never been shot in this type of environment.

Debating right now if we should leave the APR wing or put the NSX-R wing back on?

I would definitely stick with the Type R wing for your car. JMHO but that big ass wing needs to go!

Have both wings present for the photo shoot since it only takes 15 minutes to swap them over. Some likes big ass and others like them more subtle. For me, it depends on how I feel waking up that morning.

I prefer the spoilers to be the same color as the car.

However if it's a ricey look that you're after then the performance/balance aspect of the wing doesn't come into play.

Fixed!
AFAIK, theory of fluid dynamics has not changed over the years and in my fluids class in school, a few of us ricey racers wanted to know/calculate the minimal velocity required to generate DF/lift. The conclusion was the force starts around mid 80s mph, is exponential as expected.

But, don't let me blow smoke here, let the good folks at the real NASA helps us out here. You do need Java plug in to make it work and see the relationship between forces/velocity and w/o two "wings" front & rear, you have no balance but just downforce. Until you add front "wing-lets", u b ricey but bad a$$$.

BTW, static DF kills mileage cuz i care. dynamic DF (wing)kills mileage above 80mph but you don't have to lift:wink: which we all know thats bad a$$$.

The wing will most likely come off over the winter season but I decided to keep the wing on for the car's first professional photoshoot!

Letting the crowds/spectators decide it seems 6/10 people like the wing. Most people just commented about how the car looks good and never said anything about the spoiler so either they didn't notice or just being nice. Personally I like the wing :)

Wings are not for me unless the car looks really modded up. I really wish I could have two. One with ridiculous mods, with all kinds of winglets everywhere and large wing, like the one sparking the discussion. My car's body is not modded much other than wheels and height. To me even the NSX-R wing doesn't look quite right (Well, I've seen a few setups I like). In any case, do each his own. You want a wing, have at it.

Below is a personal favorite....

I think a yellow NSX like that can pull off both wings really...the NSX-R wing shows the rear fenders a bit better but the NSX body itself can pull off both wings since it does possess a very exotic look.

I have both wings in the garage but so far have not felt the need to go back to the more subtle NSX-R wing :)
