The Official 2014 F1 thread....

I believe that the engine/chassis Aero and Fuel Management will be a major factors in 2014 championship, as opposed to Tire Management as we have seen all thru 2013.
The double points system is a bit of a scam, they should award points for Quali instead.

I kinda like this idea, like 1/2 points or less perhaps.

I have a tough time with F1 esthetics...you guys all say x year was a better looking car compared to other years...I just see different variations on the same themes.

As far as aesthetics are concerned, 1998 was a watershed year with grooved tires and narrowed chassis. These revisions along with the continuing effort to make cars safer by raising the cockpit sides and complex aerodynamic aids, etc. heralded an era of awkward looking car construction.

This year’s cars are hideous! I am waiting for the Locker-room Humor to begin..."My cars nose is longer than yours. It might be longer but ours is thicker!" LOL. I wonder how long they (FIA, FOM) will let this go. If you recall, they banned the X wing cars in 97/98 due to the fact they did not look good on TV.

Yes the 88's were real pretty, even the early 90's cars did not look too shabby; like this one designed by Gary Anderson and driven by Schumacher at Spa in 1991. They gradually got uglier and this year's cars with nostrils are the worst IMO.

What is up with that Ebony Rooster in the front?

Its coyote UGLY! usually caused by too many "Adrian Newey wanna-be" designers/engineers want their bright ideas on the car.

Gary Anderson '91 7-Up special is nice. IIRC, it came in 3rd at Spa off the trailer.

well now that I see that proboscis theme.....

BWAHAHAHA!!! I hope they eat lots of humble pie this year! McLaren looking pretty damn good this year, for a change! I'm a huge Button fan, so hopefully he has a better year than last. Boulier is now running the team, so that's a plus, and possibly Brawn coming in as CEO. All they need is Honda next year! I'm rooting for Ferrari this year though, I like Alonso, and now with probably my favorite driver, Raikkonen with the Scuderia, I'm fully behind the team.

Always like McLaren as a Team, but Lewis is my Driver.

Don't like button or Alonso....speaking of which, Kimi is going to show up Alonso this year and giving Ferrari a Big problem to deal with, based on this issue, I think they will be the third or forth best team.

You and I sir are on the same page with all of that :)

so the FIA spec the minimum nose reqiurements... height and cross section at various places to try and get the nose low for safety (so they drive under the car in front rather than launching... not sure, but i thing i'd prefer launching to eating gearbox!) So the nose is low, then they spec the front bulkheads etc and they are still high! it's join the dots, and it'll never be pretty!

what they should have said is the suspension wishbones have to go down to their inner mounts (as referenced by all the previous pretty cars pictured on this thread) as opposed to the current trend of inner mounts all above the wheel centreline! like the suspension actually works on these cars anyway!

FIA and Charlie Whiting now want to see the front cross section drawings of the cars to see if the noses will do what they were supposed to do! not the outcome they wanted then????
