Top 10 Reasons California Is Better Than Texas

Grew up in Cali and loved it at the time. Still have a home and properties there but I wouldn't go back there to live unless there was a significant cash payment involved.

On the other hand, I love the South and Midwest. All except for the humidity.

Wow...I am flaberghasted. This is possibly the stupidest post I have ever seen as I am truly offended. I am from Texas, currently live in LA, and can't wait to go back. Every place has its pros and cons, but CA takes the cake on the cons.

CA does have a couple of nice things. For one, its weather. Fantastic, great, stable weather. This is because of the one other thing that's great about this place. Its vicinity to the water. This is one of the only reasons why I am here and that this state is 8th largest economy in the world. Besides that, I am dumbfounded by the rest of that post.

1. People do want to come to CA...to visit. Since 2005, more than 60% of relocation activity was outbound and is just now showing signs of slowing down.

http://www.relocation.com/blog/fewer-people-bailing-on-california-los-angeles

2. Perry is not crying because the political situation is tough. He's not even crying. He's making a bold statement that the Federal government is out of control and going overboard on its constituional authority. With this current adminstration and legislative branch, if they were to further degrade our rights, I would call for succession, too.

3. 28.3 vs. 23.7 isn't really that big of a difference. Obesity is a national problem. Living in LA, I see plenty of obese people everyday. There are plenty of hot CA girls but take a trip to Austin. You'll see PLENTY of gorgeous gals...plus their nicer.

4. Congrats on having a great shoreline and beach. Whooptie do. Personally, I like to enjoy ocean water that's actually warm. I can swim without wearing a wetsuit and fish practically year round in TX.

5. Arnold is a pretty good governor but in the environment that he has to deal with (liberal majority) he has to compromise ALOT to get anything done.

6. Options? Sure and that's why people VISIT CA. In Texas, we have plenty of lakes, rivers, aquifers, hills, casinos in LA and OK, shoreline (Galveston all the way to Corpus Christi), and more important things like agriculture, beef, oil, gas, etc etc. Plus, if we want to ski, we go to CO or NM. Plenty of options in my eyes.

7. Invent stuff? I'll just rack this one up to ignorance.

8. Weather? Go ahead...tout the attributes of your geographical location. Congrats.

9. I love Reagan. He's my favorite president of all time. W was a great governor for us and did alot to make us safer and stronger. As president, I think he had his great moments and some foul ups but I'm sure you attribute so many of our woes on him when you should do a little more research before you blatantly point the finger at one man. Let's not forget about ACORN and all the other politicians that adamantly wanted mortgages to be ascertained easier by people who truly didn't qualify not to mention the long term effects of NAFTA and the economy that headed lower that W inherited in the first place.

CA was the home to Ronnie. Notice the word "was". Now its home to people like Pelosi. Gag. The stupidity that drains from her mouth is a constant reminder of the people that she represents. She represents a state that is the 8th largest economy in the world yet can't pass a budget on time EVER. CA is state constantly trying to pass propositions to make abnormal behavior normal. CA is a state that is over taxed, over budget, under resourced, and always fighting for the wrong direction. The constant intrusion of the government into the lives of its citizens is astounding. Its a wondering why so many compromise with their civil liberties. I think its because the majority of people here are weak, lazy, under educated, and selfish. They can't think for themselves so they depend on the government to take care of them. "Here, take my tax money and make my life better!" This is the wonderful mentality and gift from CA to the rest of this country. Way to go MTV and Hollywood.

These people can't even drive commute together. To get 20 miles will take you over an hour. Its not because the expansive highways aren't there. Its because people dont give a crap about one another. There's ALWAYS an idiot in the fast lane talking on the phone. There's always a state trooper waiting to get you going 10 mph over. There's ALWAYS 18 wheelers in all 3 lanes. Turn on a blinker and you'll see what I'm talking about.

You want to talk about something real? Unemployment is one of the worst in the nation. Taxes are the worst in the nation. Not only do you get property and state income tax, state sales tax is at full throttle at over 8.5% and now payroll tax just increase 10%. With all this money, they can't even keep the electricity going constantly, keep the air clean, or even maintain a bridge that millions depend on to get to work. The politicians are more crooked here than even in NJ or NY. You want to talk about rights? To be honest, I care more about my 2nd amendment right than the right for two homosexuals to be married. They can't even maintain the freaking existing second amendment right properly and yet they want to so adamantly work on non-existent social rights? CA wants to limit the number of bullets I buy a month, but even with their "progressive gun laws", LAPD will still have more than 500 incidents of firearm exchange this year as it has every year. Let's not mention the school system. Oh man...that's a whole other ball game and let's not even begin to compare the two school systems. Do you know how many millions of dollars its costs CA every year just to pay suspended teachers that are awaiting a hearing for things like indecent exposure, theft, sexual abuse, harrassment, etc? Look that up and you tell me how awesome that is and why no CA school system can pay for school supplies.

I could rant on and on. The fact is...CA, outside of its geographical benefits, SUCKS especially in comparison to TX. The food is for the most part is terrible. The people...well, I enjoy the company of my fellow Texans better. Traffic, air quality, politics, taxes, lack of infrastructure, drugs, Hollywood support child molestors...the list goes on and on and are out of favor for CA.

Lastly, I'll take a tornado or hurricane any day. I can run from them. You can take your earthquakes and idiots that set the forest fires.

Cowboy up.

Dang Rich, that was one angry post. Don't forget that the guy who started this thread is the same guy who thinks an FD is better than an NSX, so you can't take everything he says seriously...

I can at least help with the food. Let me know what you want to eat and I'll give you some recommendations.

I live in British Columbia and I would love to visit both California and Texas. They both look like great places to live! Do I hear "road trip" with my NSX

You WILL be going to NSXPO 2010 in Las Vegas, right? Plenty of time to drive through California then...

BC isn't half bad either. On my trip to alaska and back I saw a ton of BC. Hope BC was a great little city we stayed at for a day and some of the canyon/mountain roads in that area are great. Few too many commercial trucks but I don't expect Canada to build awesome roads just for my ninja and I.

If you do make the trip (you only live once), I'd suggest avoiding the deserts and crossing a little higher north through Idaho and Colorado before heading south.

In CA's defense, I think LA represents the worst CA has to offer; albeit the most popularized part of the state. You couldn't pay me to live in LA (actually you could), but there are some great people/places all around CA.

In CA's defense, I think LA represents the worst CA has to offer; albeit the most popularized part of the state. You couldn't pay me to live in LA (actually you could), but there are some great people/places all around CA.

Actually, I beg to differ. CA has much worse to offer. Its called San Francisco. I hear ya though. There's good and bad people everywhere, but when you look at the overall picture, its bad in CA. This state has not changed a bit in its politics for decades. Why you ask? Well, for one, the local representives for the state and federally level constantly are re-elected. Its only outside of the major cities that anyone other than a democrat can get a seat. A representative of a certain area is a true reflection of the community it represents in my eyes. Why else is it that unions have so much control? Why else would the state of CA have so many social welfare programs. The "people" have turned such a blind eye to logic, reasoning, and have put all their faith into the empty promises of their local leaders.

I'm sorry if I sound angry, but as an American patriot, I hate seeing my great country fall apart by the hands of socialists and liberals that are ungrateful of what their country has fought and stood for. I think now more than ever, the powerful influences on the people of this country have forced their views on to the people and in return we have lost so much of the American dream, ambition, and heart. When else have you ever seen such a demand to celebrate mediocrity? Why else would people be so willing to hand over their individual rights in order to find salvation through bureacracy? Do you even notice how liberals are trying to normalize the abnormal?

Wade yourself through the rhetoric of the liberal mouth and what will you find? Its ok not to be number one, your still a winner. Its ok to want to impregnate an anus, that's a natural instinct. Its ok to be taxed more, the government will spend it wisely. Its ok to give up your firearms because the government will protect you. Its ok to loan the poor 1000% their annual income, real estate will never go down. Its ok to make trade easier with Mexico and Canada, they'll buy more stuff from us. War for resources is terrible, ride a bike. Demand universal healthcare, its not good enough for the politicians but you'll love it! I could go on and on.

I'm not saying by any means that the GOP is any better as we've witnessed or that these people don't exist in Texas. I'm saying that comparing CA to TX and saying its better is like blasphemy if not just idiocy and that people should open their eyes as individuals and fight for what is right and the American way. Gov. Perry, although he isn't without fault, calling for succession isn't being a whiner. That statement is a serious decry in itself and is a motivational statement for people to wake up, stop being complacent, and to see where this road we are on will lead us if we do not change course. If we can't save this country from socialism, Texas will be the last battlefield for the American way of life.

Unlike CA, Texans know that its not the government's job to hold our hands and wipe our asses. For greatness, there is sacrifice, there is no fine line between right and wrong, and taking care of your fellow man is an option not a law. CA's legacy will be the tremendous influence MTV has had on our youth leading them to believe that life is about bling, cribs, and bitches, Hollywood's perpetual support for child molestors, drugs, and degradation of capitalism, and a prime example of how "government" can overstep its bounds to such a degree that the 8th largest economy in the world is nothing more than a money pit.

Bumper to bumper traffic, smog, and Pelosi breathing down your neck? I wouldn't call that superior climate, my friend.

Oh - it's 72F here in Cincy, too.

If u make enough money u really won't feel the effects of Pelosi.

Besides I'm OK with her abortion stance and a few others.

Ur nice weather will be short lived once Winter rolls around.

Storing a NSX in the winter around here is really an option.

In snow country.... nope.

Best Places to Live (America's best small cities):
http://money.cnn.com/magazines/moneymag/bplive/2008/top100/

#4 = Irvine, CA

Hmm, that's an interesting one to bring up. Granted, looking at CA and TX cities only, Irvine, CA is indeed the first on the list. But what I found interesting is that FIVE out of the top 20 "Best Small Cities" are all in Texas. What do you conclude from this?

Anyway, I have some friends in CA I've visited a few times (Lafayette, CA, a little east of San Francisco) and I've had an awesome time vacationing there. Touring wineries, driving PCH, Monterey Bay Aquarium, Death Valley, Yosemite, Heavenly... The geography can be gorgeous. If I was independently filthy stinking rich, I could see myself there. (But not LA. Been there once, enough to learn I have no plans on every going back.) But it's kinda like if the character Dennis in Monty Python's and the Holy Grail, wallowing in his lovely filth, said to himself "what a wonderful place we live in, because of the shiny King prancing around without sh*t all over him." Barring a winning lottery ticket, on my own dime I have zero interest in the place. I'd have to significantly sacrifice large chunks of my quality of life in order to get temperate weather. Honestly, I'd rather just move to HI in that case. (Shame about their lack of race tracks, though.)

In other words, take California and empty it of people - and yeah, it'd be significantly superior to Texas. :) That's not reality though. <shrug>

Cowboy up.

I must be one lucky bastard living in a Republican town in the SF Bay Area.

The town is self sufficient from property tax alone.

It made Forbes top 50 most expensive zip code.

http://www.forbes.com/2009/08/26/most-expensive-zip-codes-lifestyle-real-estate-zip_full-list.html

I don't even see anything from TX on the first 100. Must be tantamount to comparing Lamborghini to NSX in price.

Most people from outta the area never visited a Ferrari-grade town in the SF Bay Area.

IMHO, it's heaven for the following reasons:

1. Superior weather
2. In the NSX 30-45 mins from the Pacific Ocean
3. Trees, foliage. Lots of it. Redwood trees are more well endowed than TX tumbleweed.
4. Here on the SF Penninsula, the air quality is awesome since we have the crisp Pacific Ocean air blanketing us and pushing our exhaust to the East Bay and onward.
5. In the winter time, we're less than 3 hours from Lake Tahoe for skiing.
6. I see more Ferraris, Lambos, 911TT than I see NSX here on a regular basis.
7. API scores of our schools are through the roof.
8. Most of the adults around here have a graduate school degree and all of their teeth.
9. California has real well endowed mountains, unlike Austin's rolling hills.
10. Central to the HQ of many well known high tech and internet companies.
11. Median income for a family in 2007 was $190k~. Certainly more than any town in TX.
12. 100 females over the age of 18 to 91 males over the age of 18.
13. We have only 1 sex offender http://www.familywatchdog.us/ViewOffenderDetails.asp?oID=CA1869424100370&aID=211556078&at=1&sid={212A7C18-8AC3-45E1-AB25-22C974B951B4}&lat=37.349491&long=-122.116284&clr=%23ff0000&rm=0
14. No murders and our crime rate is WAY below the national average (parents around here let their kids roam around freely like it was 1950's) and probably any city or town in TX http://www.cityrating.com/citycrime.asp?city=Los+Altos&state=CA
15. We have well-paved roads with well manicured foliage that allows bikers to bike in a 45MPH zone.

And I'm voting for this man for our 2010 Governor from TX.

BATMAN.. 99.9% of your points support your particular, tiny little fragment of California; then you move to claim your area defines all of California, therefore all of California is superior to all of Texas.

Once again, I don't know how being in the top 50 zip code by cost is a "benefit". Why wouldn't you want the same advantages with less cost? Would your neighborhood be "better" if your house cost 10 times more than it does now? It simply appears as if you are bragging, although it certainly doesn't impress me. It's no different then a broad paying 4 grand for a purse because it's better. You ask her why it's better and she says because it costs 4 grand.

By the way BATMAN, Plano Texas has the highest median income of large cities in the nation. Someone needs to tell them what losers they are though for not paying six times more for their homes that provide the exact same benefits as more expensive ones.

The purse comparison is unacceptable.

High costs of my 'hood is good. Frankly it keeps out 'hood rats that don't belong there.

The more appropriate analogy that you should have doled out would have been:

When the NSX first came out it I'm sure the price of it kept this forum more "mature" and "professional". When the NSX became more affordable to the young bucks and hood rats then the silly threads and posts started to ensue.

I'm sure this thread is not exempted in your opinion.

I like Lance Armstrong.

I'm sure the emerging "United States of China" residents might have something to do with it.

While only a marginal part of the population, North-Central Plano has seen an increase in the density of Asian residents. This highly concentrated area has established an area saturated with Asian supermarkets such as H Mart or Mei Hua, and frozen yogurt shops. This area has become known to residents as Asia Town or Chinaville.

Something similar happened in Vancouver's property prices when the Hong kong folks moved when China took it back. The HK folks that couldn't make it to the USA went to places like Vancouver and the local residents saw their property values (with the right Fung shui) jump up.

According to a 2007 estimate, the median income for a household in the city is $84,492, and the median income for a family is $101,616. About 3.0% of families and 4.3% of the population live below the poverty line, including 4.6% of those under age 18 and 7.8% of those age 65 or over making less than $59,873.

Plano was the highest income place with a population of 130,000 or more in 2000.

Plano was ranked the most affluent city with a population over 250,000 in the United States with the lowest poverty rate of 6.3%. Its neighbor, Frisco, was ranked the richest city for the population of under 250,000 in the United States with a 2.7% poverty rate. In 2007, Plano had the highest median income of a city with a population exceeding 250,000 in the nation at $84,942.

According to crime statistics, there were four homicides in Plano in 2006, the lowest homicide rate of all U.S. cities of 250,000 or more population.

Conclusion: My 'hood is better.........

Hmmm. Started working at HP towards the end of John Young and when Lew Platt came in.

Don't u love the internet?

?

And yes, I do love the internet you have a chance to meet people who have very little self esteem and are not capable of carrying on an intelligent conversation!
