Mt. Baker Drive 2007. Official Directions and schedule.

Sunday August 26th

7:00am-7:30am Arrive at NE 70th Pl park & ride in Kirkland (exit 17). This is located on the east side of I-405.

7:30am Leave for the Smokey Point rest area (coffee break) on I-5 north bound, set your tripometer to 0 before leaving the P&R. Arrive at rest area located after exit 206 @ mile post 207.
Estimated travel time 35 minutes, tripometer @ 38.9 miles. 20 minute stay.

Leave reast area and head north on I-5, take next exit (#208), turn right and head east on HWY 530 for about 3.5 miles and turn left onto HWY 9 north, tripometer @ 44.2 miles.

When entering the town of Sedro Woolley turn right onto the North Cascade HWY (HWY 20 east), tripometer @ 71.4 miles.

Turn left back onto HWY 9 north @ the intersection of Arco-am/pm and Dairy Queen, tripometer @ 72.7 miles. (Regroup at the school on the right hand side)

Follow HWY 9 north til it intersects with HWY 542, tripometer @ 95.5 miles, at this intersection turn left (heading west) for about a mile. We will enter the casino area from the back and stage parking on HWY 542 (east bound). This will be a place for bathrooms or fuel and to meet the Canadian crew. Please park normally in the stalls, the casino security will stop and tell us to move our cars. It happens every year. 20 minute stay.

Leave casino and head east on HWY 542 (Mt Baker HWY). Next stop will be 15 miles east of the town of Glacier, tripometer @ 130.1 miles. This is the DOT Hwy garage. 45 minutes from the casino stop. 15 minute stay. Depending on our timing, we may not stop here. If we do not stop at DOT Hwy garage, then it's 1 hour - 1:15 from casino to lodge.

LEAVE DOT Hwy garage and continue about 6 miles to enterance of the White Salmon Lodge parking area. We should arrive at the White Salmon parking area by 11:30, the gate to the parking area is usually closed, but will be open for us between 11:30 and noon. It will be important to arrive by these times. The gate will not be open after noon.

There is plenty of parking (paved) at the lodge. We should have some access to the lodge for bathrooms. Estimated time at the lodge about 1-2 hours. If at all possible would like to leave as a group so we do not have to open the gate to many times when leaving.

For those attending this drive, I recommend a packed lunch (no food service at lodge during summer months), sodas, water, digital cameras, and cam-corders, hiking boots, sunscreen, windex and papertowels for the bugs on your windshield, and a garbage bag.

This drive will happen rain or shine, be prepared.

We will have the opportunity to stop in the town of Glacier on the way back for dinner at "Milano's pasta fresca" or those that wish can continue home. If we leave the lodge by 2:30 pm, we should arrive home in the Bellevue area by 5:30pm, some of you may need to adjust your schedules accordingly for your trip home.,

*****important note from Dean*******
There has been some concerns regarding speeds on this drive, this will be addressed at the park and ride before we leave. I believe we can find a happy medium for everyone. Remember we will stick out like a sore thumb.

The main concern will be to behave ourselves on the Mt Baker Hwy and at the lodge.
We are lucky to have this opportunity (e-mail & thank the g.m. at Mt Baker Ski Area, Duncan Howat and his daughter Amy) to use the lodge area, since it's usually closed during summer months to the public. I don't want to be a hard ass about this, but please respect this request.

I hope all those who attend have a great time...

This is not a race event, if those who wanted to drive more spiritly, please stay at the back, heck, you could even sandbag yourself and leave couple minutes after everyone's gone, and play catch up. As Dean said, we will stick out as a sore thumb. So if we see any of us driving way too aggressive or even at the point of endangering other motorists (Read: Black meanace). Please DO report to me or Dean.

It's been very successful and fun event of the last 3 years, hope to see more new nsx/S2000 owners there:

If someone has access to the S2KI.com site or knows some of the S2000 guys in the puget sound area, please contact them and have them start signing in. Can anyone contact the Canadian group (Pam and her gang)? Thanks!

ExitSpeed

I've been looking forward to this all summer! I have high expectations after last year. :)

I rode in DrVolkl's NSX last year - if it's kosher i'd love to drive my 300ZX this time around... ?

What are the thoughts of non-NSX people attending? I have a few other friends that are excellent/sane drivers that might want to tag along. Are we encouraging this or discouraging it?
I seem to remember some STi's, EVO's and a couple other random cars last year (including one black Ferrari) and I think that personally as long as the people are mature, it shouldn't be a problem.
Thoughts?

same goes with any nsx meets, as long as they are freindly, and they too, like nsx, they should tag along.

I already invited people at S2ki.com So, really, the Mt. Baker drive is not exactly a nsx owners only event. BTW, Dean will drive a Mercedes leading the way anyway. ;)

I actually might try to make it there for the drive.I grew up in Edmonds and have to go there at some point to visit friends and fam.,I have my tranny out out right now my clutch let go, 5 hrs getting that out.It was a catatrophic falure.

list updated.

guys, I'm thinking of putting a list of the members of their "REAL" names and the car they drive. I'll print them out and then distribute to the participants so we will know each other better...

Please email or PM me.

For example:
nsxdreamer2 / slowv6
Red Na1 w/ white volks/ GT wing
Ferrand.

It is official - Sunday August 26th will be the day of the drive. I will have Ferran post the driving directions on the 1st post. Things to remember...

1.Everyone is welcome regardless of the car they drive, just respect the road.
2.Will be leaving from 70th st/Kirkland park & ride off of I-405 north bound.
3.Leaving at 7:30am
4.$10 per car to support the lodge, generators cost money to run.
5.Fill up the gas tank before the trip.
6.Invite friends, this is always a great drive.

If anybody has questions just ask.

It's really hard to miss out on a nice drive like this, so I'll be there. Looking forward to getting to meet all of you guys and gals in the Seattle area.

Throw the OLDMNSX on the list.

Brad

Looking forward to this drive - hoping everyone can make it. If you see an NSX or S2000 on the road, invite them & tell them to check out the nsxprime thread and sign up. Also anyone who has a friend tagging along in another car, please list their name seperately so we have an accurate car count. Remember it it $10 per car for the use of the day lodge at Mt Baker.

Ferran - I am not going to start a new thread since this one has already taken off, but we need to add a few more names...NSX's - OLDMNSX, S2000's - fperra, rice classic, rain or shine.

I will contact you later today with the driving instructions.

Oh by the way POLAR - don't worry the Mercedes will keep up and/or set a good pace.

Polar - if you saw me in the Lakemont area and the vehicle was silver then no that was not the new C-class, that was my 07 E350 sport with a panorama roof. I can bring the new C-class home one night if you want a private viewing and demo. Just let me know.
